I’m sure this topic will have been done to death but just want to know I’m not on my own. Feel so lucky for everything we do have this year but am absolutely gutted that I’ve come down with some bad cold/flu bug yesterday. Christmas is my fav time of year, I love seeing the family opening presents and all the other nice bits. This break has been much needed after a really busy few months at work, and here I am, feeling horrendous, prepping for another night of laying awake with my head pounding, coughing and feeling freezing cold.

If you’re ill, have a whinge about how rubbish you feel and how unfair it is.

Sending love to anyone working over Christmas or otherwise having a rough time, it’s not bloody fair!

Sorry to hear you’re feeling rough :( plenty of posts on here regarding current illnesses and I ended up posting too for my own sanity! I’m only now feeling slightly better and it’s been nearly 4 weeks. I had exhaustion, body aches, no energy and heavy head/floaty sensation but not dizzy in vision. Fatigue and no energy have lingered the most. No typical cold symptoms which was strange. Not sure if it was flu or Covid as didn’t test.
hope you’re feel better soon!

Shufflebumnessie · 24/12/2025 19:09

I must have been writing my thread as you posted yours. I'm feeling so ill. It's day 8 and it's just getting worse.
I love Christmas and am gutted that I'll likely have to miss going to my in-laws tomorrow for lunch/afternoon etc.
I haven't felt this ill in a long time and am hoping I make a remarkable recovery by tomorrow morning (but I doubt it based on how I feel right now).
So disappointing and miserable.
Hope you start to feel much better very soon.

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 24/12/2025 19:19

Norovirus here! Just me so far - horrible 36-48 hours - but seems our 14mo is coming down with it too 🙈

Guests for tomorrow cancelled - we were supposed to have 6 adults and 1 baby round for lunch.

Sorry for everyone who’s in the same boat, it’s rubbish!

FunkyMonks · 24/12/2025 19:30

Hi Op sorry to hear you’re not well I think there’s a few of us this year that have fallen unwell.
My DH is full of a cold and on strong antibiotics for ear infection.
Since last Friday I came down with a head cold/chesty cough and still feel poorly now haven’t slept much as I’ve been waking having coughing fits.
My DS has had Gastroenteritis flu which started Saturday night he’s only now slowly getting better. My DD is the only one in the house that’s well enough sods bloody law that majority of us have fallen poorly.

Cleo65 · 24/12/2025 19:30

Gnarly excruciating UTI here, on my second lot of antibiotics & oozing in self pity. Doubt I'll make Christmas lunch at my sister's, currently wallowing in bed....
Ho-ho-ducking-ho.

BlossomingSlowly · 24/12/2025 19:31

Feel for you all! So sorry you’re in the same boat :( It’s the same here, plans all cancelled for tomorrow. My OH has somehow avoided catching whatever I have so far so I feel beyond guilty that his day is going to be much quieter than planned because I’m not well. God it’s just bloody rubbish. I usually love climbing into bed in an evening in my PJs but I’m dreading it tonight because I know it will be another night of hardly any sleep. Last night seemed to go on forever

sending hugs to you all Flowers

How are you all getting on? I started with a horrible sore throat on Tuesday evening, got worse on Christmas Eve with sneezing, nose running like a tap, completely out of it on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. slightly better on Saturday, but then felt awful again yesterday. I have zero energy and feel like crying all the time. I've had the flu jab so it's not flu, doesn't feel like Covid, but is a very strange virus. I just want to feel normal again and eat some of the food I had to freeze - but no appetite whatsoever. Hope you are all feeling a bit better.

Fluffydogonmylap · 29/12/2025 09:39

Norovirus here too. Started with me late Saturday night and its steadily working its way through the family. Luckily all adults. Two of us on the home run,the other 2 just started.
Ive had to cancel us all visiting my dad today as he is having chemo.

Mindgoneblankagain · 29/12/2025 10:24

DH and I both in bed still feeling dreadful with the cold/flu virus. He started with it on the 21st, me on Christmas day and we've been laid low ever since. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

BlossomingSlowly · 29/12/2025 15:52

Thinking of all of you that are still in the thick of it, it’s absolutely bloody horrible.

@PistachioTiramisucan completely relate to the crying part! I was extremely emotional for the entirety of being poorly over Christmas. Not like me but cried at absolutely everything and felt extremely down. Starting to feel brighter now I’m almost better but still not back to normal. I kept thinking I’d wake up the next day and feel better and I didn’t for days. Trying to get back to some sort of normality now but still struggling with the fatigue/not wanting to eat/feeling a bit sick and rough

I've had the flu jab so it's not flu

It still may be flu, as you can still catch it, despite having had the flu jab. The role of the jab is to reduce the risk of you becoming really poorly with it; it won’t prevent you getting it.

(sorry if what I have written sounds really preachy! I was just wanting to convey that you could well have flu. I hope you feel better soon).

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/12/2025 17:25

I knew I was going to get ill, and I did. Bedded for three days. Managed to peel myself out of bed today for work.
I'm sure it's our immune response, at work our adrenaline keeps us going and then as soon as we are off, our body relaxed and we get ill. It happens every bloody time!

That sounds just like how I'm still feeling!
It's day 14 & I still can't stop coughing, still going hot/cold periodically, don't want to eat, no energy, feel sick, so tired etc. I'm a lot better than I was but still feel rubbish.
I'm so bored of it now, it's ruined Christmas & the plans we had and I reckon it's going to hang around for a while yet.
Also feeling very emotional.
Thankfully no one else in my family seems to have caught it.
Next December I'm limiting contact with the outside world as much as possible 😅

Nellie67 · 30/12/2025 10:58

So glad I saw this thread, having a good cry this morning over how Christmas has gone. We've basically had sickness coming and going in our house for the whole of December. I know we're so lucky compared to other people and it's not the end of the world but I was really looking forward to the break with the kids and I was so organised for once this year!!
Ended up with flu and running a fever Christmas morning and had to go back to bed shortly after kids opened presents. Was hosting so poor DH had to step in and do the full dinner. House full of food and drink and it's barely touched.
Sitting here looking at the decorations wondering do I just admit defeat and take them all down and be done with it.

And just when we thought there could be no more sickness...DH now down with a stomach bug.

P0loGirl · 30/12/2025 11:06

Dd spent all day Boxing Day on a drip in hospital for fluids and anti-emetics after vomiting violently for 18 hours. Some nasty bugs out there! Hope the poorly posters are beginning to feel better.

soundsofthesixties · 30/12/2025 14:13

POloGirl
Oh gosh, how awful for her and for you. Hope she's feeling a bit better now.

movinghomeadvice · 30/12/2025 14:17

We just travelled halfway across the continent to see my BIL’s family and I’m now sick as a dog. I’ve spent the day being miserable in the hotel room, shaking, vomiting, fever. I just managed to hold down a paracetamol and eat a few dry crackers. Poor DH is alone wrangling 3 very young dc on public transport in -5 degree weather… definitely not the trip we planned!
Solidarity to all those out there who are ill right now.
