Cheeseboard for 20 people. 7 types of cheese. 3kg cheese overall. Is this enough or do I need to race out to a cheesemonger? 3 of the 20 are small children so probably only interested in the cheddar which is heavily represented.

Irrespective of the above have just realised I was given 480g blue stilton at the counter which seems low? But I really love Stilton so perhaps am not the best judge.

It’s only about 176g per adult (3000 / 17) I don’t think that’s enough I’m afraid. And you’re better to have too much than not enough

I think it seems fine and I love cheese. Reality is cheese comes at the end of the meal when you are already pretty full and is rich so you only need a little bit. Tbh you’d be lucky to get 100g of cheese in a restaurant but it looks and seems like loads as there is also grapes, crackers, quince and chutney. I’d make sure you have plenty of accompaniments but you are find for cheese.

Thanks both! I'll see how I feel as I pass a supermarket ...

I had to restrain myself from buying more cheese today. I happened to be in M&S and they had very nice-looking collection of French cheeses in a box. I picked it up. I considered just how much cheese we already have. I put it down again.😇

Obviously you want to massively overshop for cheese so there is loads for cheese toasties, baked potatoes and cheese, leek gratin, a nibble of cheese every time you open the fridge and just cheese over the coming year month week.

ForLoveNotMoney · 24/12/2025 14:07

I don’t think it’s possible to have too much cheese 😬 I think I’d want a bit more just to be safe. Enjoy!

Ohthatsabitshit · 24/12/2025 15:37

Depends if it’s cheese after Christmas dinner OR cheese light lunch or supper at another time. More than enough if the first. You probably need almost half again at least if it’s a stand alone.

While I agree that there isn’t really any such thing as too much cheese, I also think it’s highly likely that every single one of us has actually got enough cheese.
When did anyone ever sit back after Christmas lunch and say “Bloody hell, we’ve eaten every bit of cheese and I’m still hungry and chocolate isn’t going to cut it. This is a Christmas cheese(less) fiasco”. Never

helluvatime · 25/12/2025 10:24

I forgot cheese biscuits!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 25/12/2025 12:40

I can confirm that 3.5kg of cheese is enough for 20 people after dinner (though I do have around 800g additional cheese to replace the 4 most popular in an emergency)

Loads left over for today without taking account of the auxiliary cheese!

It’s the final and people will be full up and not everyone will want it
