Recommendations for best non alcoholic red wine please!

Help! need to find a nice, non alcoholic red wine for Christmas Day, not too pricey - around £10 per bottle (so that’s the budget end I guess) and more convincing than the stuff that tastes just like grape juice.

I’m in London and can get to any of the major supermarkets easily enough. All suggestions for brands and where to purchase welcome.

Sorry but IME they are all grim.

Moltenpink · 23/12/2025 12:45

I really don’t think you will find anything drinkable, sorry. Red grape or cherry juice could be an option?

100Otters · 23/12/2025 12:49

Wednesdays Domaine is the only niceish one I’ve found. You can get it in some wine shops/delis. It’s maybe about the £15 a bottle mark though.

I’ve tried many and they’re all rubbish! What about a non alcoholic sparkling? They’re much nicer! The Friexnet one is good

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2025 12:50

Oh dear, that’s as I feared. I thought the Noughty red one was meant to be quite good… never mind. Off to Sainsbury’s now to have a look. Thanks!

@100Otters
@Peonies12
Thank you, I’ll check them out. £15 is fine.

They are all pretty horrid (I've been looking for the same thing). The whites are marginally better. I've not found anything palatable so far, so let us know if you do! Maybe a different kind of drink might be better ... Although like me you are probably seeking something "festive".

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2025 12:56

DD has some sparkling whites that are meant to be okay… my job is to find some red; left it to the last minute unfortunately.

Actually, controversially, I’m going to suggest pomegranate juice instead of red wine.
I spent last year drinking that (I was pregnant and wanted something that didn’t taste crap and looked nice in a pretty glass) and I would also maybe add lemonade or soda water to it.

That’s not a bad idea. Personally I think ginger beer is a decent alternative to alcohol, it’s flavoursome with a bit of a kick, but so far I’ve convinced no one.

I agree with the PP, they're all nasty and you're much better with a good soft drink.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/12/2025 13:51

I'd prefer a soda and lime or elderflower and soda than pretend red wine.

I clicked on this thread eagerly to see if anyone had ever found anything even close to drinkable. I’ve never managed it! I think you’ve been given the poison chalice there op!

How about something like Chinotto?https://culinaris.co.uk/item/lurisia-chinotto-275ml

That looks promising. I’m sending the link to DS right now!

I wouldn’t bother.. I don’t think it’s even possible to make a nice alcohol free red. But it doesn’t matter really as there are so many nice non alcoholic drinks around now - I think we all just have to agree that red isn’t an option. A lot of the zero percent gin stuff is nice and the random botanical spirit not spirit stuff. Plus you can get nice sparkling alternatives.

Musicaltheatremum · 23/12/2025 17:58

Freixenet prosecco isn't bad. Comes in rose and white. Much better than nosecco
