Enough beef for beef wellington for 8 was supposed to be delivered today. It wasn’t. Promised for tomorrow. Would you trust that it will arrive, or buy something else tomorrow for an emergency Christmas dinner just in case. DP who is in charge of Christmas dinner says it’ll be fine-if necessary he’ll buy something on Christmas Eve that will be fine. Will there be anything left on Christmas Eve?

Who has promised it’ll arrive tomorrow? Have they given a time frame? I’d imagine you would still be able to get beef tomorrow or Christmas Eve if necessary.

At worst you could get filet steaks and do individual ones rather than one large.

sprigatito · 22/12/2025 22:22

id buy something else and shove it in the freezer if it turns out not to be necessary. I’ve been burned before by Christmas deliveries and I like to sleep at night Grin

Goinggreymammy · 22/12/2025 22:41

Second vote for buy something, just in case. So you can have a nice Christmas eve without going round the shops. Freeze it if you dont need it.

PermanentTemporary · 22/12/2025 22:43

Depends on how your Christmas Eve looks. I’d trust the delivery tomorrow but then I’ve got the 24th off so wouldn’t mind doing some shopping then if needed.

WilfredsPies · 22/12/2025 23:33

It depends on how ‘Tah-Dah’ you want the meal to be.

I think I’d have a mooch along early afternoon on Christmas Eve. I’m quite tempted to do it this year actually. M&S always have discounted stuff. You might not get fillet, but there will be some sort of meat based product suitable for a roast. I’ve had to work on Boxing Day before; the fridges were never completely empty. Our local garden centre has a butchers and they’re already doing half price turkeys (already have a turkey but I flipping love it, so it has gone in the freezer for New Year).

And the supermarket is always quieter on Christmas Eve than in the next two days.

JustMyView13 · 23/12/2025 06:40

I’d wait until Xmas Eve. If you get up and go first thing you’ll have the pick of any meats.

Ohthatsabitshit · 23/12/2025 08:09

We quite often buy our meat on Christmas Eve at a fraction of the price.

omggggggg · 23/12/2025 08:10

I’d wait. The shops are packed full at the moment if you need to buy something last minute.

GameOfJones · 23/12/2025 08:15

I'd wait too. We have often gone to the shops on Christmas Eve and there is a lot of meat left. We got a turkey from Waitrose at about 4pm last Christmas Eve for around 75% off. But we aren't fussy about which meat we have so I'm happy to slightly risk it. One year we ended up with gammon as all the turkey was gone. It was still lovely.

The shops are still open on Christmas Eve so you can afford to wait until later today at the earliest in case it doesn't turn up but I'm sure it will.

Did it arrive op?

Glitchymn1 · 24/12/2025 20:51

Wait, you’ll probably get a bargain and the shelves are brimming with food.

You realise it’s Christmas Eve evening right?

There’s loads of food in most shops, even today
