How should I spend Christmas morning alone?

For various reasons I will now be alone (in my own home) from around 9 pm on Christmas Eve, or potentially slightly earlier, to around midday on Christmas Day. I’d love suggestions for how to enjoy this time and not just feel sad that I’m waking up alone on Christmas Day. I do need to do a little bit of cooking to take to the Christmas Day festivities but I could also get this done in advance so I’d really just be doing it to kill time

thinking things like getting some nice stuff in for breakfast, maybe a nice bath, potentially even a bit of exercise… All suggestions welcome except anything that involves an early start!

Nice breakfast, maybe a bath, go for a walk, go to church if you are that way inclined, watch carols or a Christmas movie

Do you run? That's what I'd do Christmas morning. Lie in, nice breakfast, run (or walk), hot bath.

Nice brisk walk or a jog. Hot coffee, fancy breakfast, bath, hair wash and blow dry and put on some nice skin care products. Enjoy.

I’d be waking up to a box of chocs and cup of tea in bed. Open some of the gifts I bought myself, shower and dress up, then maybe watch a favourite Christmas film. It’d be past noon by then.

Definitely some exercise, get outside and feel the cool air on your face or maybe do a bit of yoga or pilates in the house.

Nice breakfast afterwards with good coffee.

A lovely bath or shower with quality toiletries.

A glass of champagne if you don't have to drive later.

Sounds great to me.

I have a 4 year old so am always up early and the mornings are all about him so if I had the night/morning alone I would have a lovely pamper in the evening then a lay in (7am would be nice for me!) Either go for a run or walk, come home to a nice latte and a pastry for breakfast and do some crocheting

Squirrelchops1 · 22/12/2025 18:14

An all morning wank fest? OK, tea in bed, nice walk then a bath.

Hankunamatata · 22/12/2025 18:17

My personal one would be:
Good movie, snacks, fav drinks, then
Lie in
Fav foods for breakfast and nice coffee/tea in bed
Good book

I'd watch Carols from Kings (should be on iPlayer by Xmas Eve evening), then go to bed with a good book.
Christmas morning, nice walk (or run, or yoga, or swim, whatever sort of exercise you do/like), then a shower, body lotion etc, get dressed slowly, lovely breakfast. I like those frozen pastries that you do in the oven or air fryer so they're warm.

MirrorMirror1247 · 22/12/2025 18:20

I'll be alone Xmas morning and I've got stuff in for a nice fry up for breakfast! Might go for a walk afterwards, I'll see what the weather's like. If no walk, I'll find something Christmassy to watch or maybe read a book.

MogsChristmasBoiledEgg · 22/12/2025 18:20

Christmas film and fancy snacks.
Fizz.
Snooze.
Bacon sandwich or similar.
Bath/Yoga/Run/Champagne/selection box, whatever is your thing.

AGreenWitch · 22/12/2025 18:21

I'd go to church on Xmas eve night and then have a really leisurely morning doing whatever I wanted to, shower, breakfast, wear something comfy, something nice to read.

😂You definitely win MN for today!

I do believe the - erm - traditional Christmas Day activity is to fill in your tax return 😁.

parkrun

IchiNiSanShiGo · 22/12/2025 18:42

Christmas Eve - something expensive to drink (soft or alcoholic, whatever floats your boat), comfy but nice clothes, good book or catch up on your fave boxset, all the snacks.

Christmas morning - no alarm, breakfast of your fave thing in your pjs, exercise if you fancy it, long shower, nice skincare products, get dressed, quick glass of fizz, be on your way to wherever you need to go.

Enjoy the luxury of peace and relaxation. It might not be how you really want to spend it, but it could do you the world of good.

gynaeissue · 22/12/2025 19:56

Thanks for all the lovely suggestions! I do love Carols from kings and I don’t run (otherwise park run would be perfect!) but do have somewhere nice to walk nearby and I do also peloton so may be able to join a live class. It would be nice to spend at least part of the morning around others even if virtually or from a distance on a walk 😂

We have a house full and I am feeling woefully under prepared this year. Quite honestly, these alternatives sound delightful!

Pretty much what I was going to sugguest, and pretty much what I’ll be doing.
