I know some people will be working but does anyone do anything special?

We usually go for a walk then have a takeaway.

We are all ready for Christmas Day with presents wrapped and food shop done.

I’m working til 5 but DH will take kids for a walk, prep all the Christmas food- peel and prep veg and potatoes , make the stuffing, prep turkey, roll pigs in blankets etc. when I finish the day will go to our local pizza place for dinner and I can finally relax! Home for a quick film (mog at Christmas or similar!) and then kids tucked up, baileys and it’s a wonderful life for adults and bed. Can’t wait! (Except working!)

Menopausio · 22/12/2025 07:47

When the DC were young we would get them up early ,have a long dog walk on the beach, then stop in at in-laws for a cooked breakfast. Spend a couple of hours there then drop DC to my parents for an hour or so while we dashed home and got the presents from the shed and hidden in our room. Then all back home , Xmas film then another dog walk as its going dark to look at the Xmas lights. Then evening meal, bath and PJ's. Hot chocolate while winding down then in to bed.

Jesswebster01 · 22/12/2025 07:47

We are doing a pantomine then nandos after it is my birthday christmas events 😒 kids will enjoy it. Except they are fussy eaters and won't eat the nandos but it's my birthday so my pick for a change.

susiedaisy1912 · 22/12/2025 07:48

I’ve got Xmas eve off this year usually I work it so I’m excited to be able to enjoy the day for a change. I’m meeting my son and his partner for a coffee and then chilling with the tv, snacks and my cat. Although it’s not lost on me that meeting my son for coffee means someone else is working Xmas eve.

misspositivepants · 22/12/2025 07:50

Generally Xmas eve is a prep and chill day, big dog walk, prep the food for the Xmas Eve buffet and prep the food for Xmas day. Keeping the kids occupied and pray for sleep which inevitably doesn’t come. I do love Xmas .

GrannyTeapot · 22/12/2025 07:52

We eat our first mince pies, watch Santa Claus The Movie and go to church. Everything is done so it’s a peaceful day.

Lillers · 22/12/2025 07:52

DH is working, but I can put our toddler in nursery for the morning so I can get food prep done and final wrapping. Christmas Eve is also when I cook the ham.

Then at lunchtime I’ll pick up DD, then head into town to meet DH from his shift. We’ll have some lunch out and then head home. In the afternoon/evening, we drop gifts to the neighbours and then we’ll have something nice for dinner (often steaks, but we’ll see what looks nice in town).

Onearmedscissor · 22/12/2025 07:55

Working until lunchtime.

Nothing special for the afternoon (i'll prep the meat for dinner and some veg) but we always have a buffet for dinner and eat it in the living room and watch a christmas film - the dcs love doing this.

Schoolregret · 22/12/2025 07:57

Up early and get the house cleaned. Get a wash and blowdry. Pick up some fresh bread for turkey and ham sandwiches on Christmas day night. Then home, new pj's on and watch Santa Clause The movie at 3pm. Teenagers will have showers about 6ish, new pj's, annual picture of them in front of the tree, then we will order a Chinese takeaway and watch Home Alone.

Genevieva · 22/12/2025 07:57

When the children were little we took them to a christingle service. Now we all do midnight mass, usually after seeing friends at the pub. Otherwise, last minute Christmas preparation. We collect Holly with berries on a dog walk and put it over the pictures. Cup of tea and a mince pie. That sort of thing.

inkyspells · 22/12/2025 07:58

Normally wake up and do our Christmas Eve boxes
Then head into town for food and a couple of nice cocktails.
I pop to my dads then head home for a picky tea with a Christmas movie then finish with a cuppa listening to Christmas songs then wait for Santa 😛

rafeal · 22/12/2025 07:58

Long walk in the morning, food prep together in the afternoon & movies in the evening.

It has a feeling of its own although with teens/young adults it’s the build up to another similar day. Although they love the Christmas season they aren’t particularly excited about the day itself.

inkyspells · 22/12/2025 07:59

Oh and every year at my dads we watch Scrooge (the one with alistar simms )

Staringintothevoid616 · 22/12/2025 08:00

Up early to get the last minute Christmas veg. HWe always do a matinee pantomime and a Chinese takeaway. Then Christmas film. dog walk not on beach (we do that Christmas Day)

Read Tge Night Before Christmas

Andtheworldwentwhite · 22/12/2025 08:01

It’s my son’s birthday on Xmas eve. When he was little we did his birthday up to about 5pm and then moved onto Xmas. Now he is older we tend to just go with what he wants to do.

TheCountessAtChristmas · 22/12/2025 08:02

Up early for collection from the butchers and collection from supermarket
Home and start prep including make stuffing.
Set table
Then were heading out for a couple of drinks at a pub, 5pm resturant booked. Then home for a movie and bed!

DeathMetalMum · 22/12/2025 08:05

Dp and I are both working. Dp only the morning 5am-approx 9. I am working a full day, we normally close early approx 4pm but haven't been allowed this year (healthcare) so working until 5.30.

When dc were younger we used to have a pass for a local zoo and would always visit if I wasn't in work (every other year usually).

This year we are having meal deal pizza from the supermarket for dinner, dp does Christmas day and Christmas eve is always my turn. Dc will probably lounge and watch some Christmas films as they are now teen and pre-teen. We will maybe play a game or watch something together on Christmas eve. Dd2 is 12 but she's been building up her excitement for Christmas since December 1st. She's going to be almost exploding like a bottle of pop on Christmas eve!

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 22/12/2025 08:20

I’m having surgery on the 24th. Should be home the same day. So it’s new Pjs, dressing gown (of doom) easy snacks (if I’m upto it) etc. My mum has done all my wrapping so will pop down with my presents. Then mince pie/carrot/milk for Santa and early night. I expect I’ll be in a lot of pain and still drowsy from the GA, but I’ll do my best to make it calm and happy for my little two.

SunnieShine · 22/12/2025 08:22

Working until 5pm but will be well into the Christmas spirit. 🎄

Meadowfinch · 22/12/2025 08:25

Check the food prep is all done, visit my dB. Relax

Maybe make some more mince pies 😊

Parker231 · 22/12/2025 08:25

we’ll be sitting at the airport waiting for numerous flights to arrive bringing the extended family to us for Christmas.

Onefortheroad25 · 22/12/2025 08:26

Everyone’s sounds really peaceful and relaxing. Mine is usually manic. Cook the ham, food prep. Tidy the house (again) Bring child to the barber. Entertain my mother who is staying with us. Rush out and buy all the things I’ve forgotten. Children’s mass at 5 where ds is doing a reading so we have to go. Will probably get a takeaway. Attempt to watch a Xmas movie, usually gets interrupted. Drink some wine. Try and remember where I’ve hidden the presents. Fall into bed really late! Anyone else’s a bit stressy?

Blueberrymuffinsforthewin · 22/12/2025 08:28

Breakfast with Santa at the local pub, visiting family then chilled evening of films and far too many chocolates.

PegDope · 22/12/2025 08:33

We will be up early and go for a long walk in our local park. Lunch will be light, soup or bone broth because we’ll be heading to our local for carvery at about 5.

Then home and into pjs. We watch Muppets Christmas Carol every year with some Christmas treats.

I think Christmas Eve is better than the day itself!

notacooldad · 22/12/2025 08:36

Although it’s not lost on me that meeting my son for coffee means someone else is working Xmas eve.
But you said you normally work CE, so its your turn to relax.

I normally have friends round for a games night.
