Mains operated outdoor lights

I bought an outdoor light decoration from Home Bargains, it states that the plug must be kept indoors but the wire is so thick that there's no way of passing it through a window or door and being able to close them over the wire. I have other outside decorations with a thin wire so don't get why they would sell them like this 😂

@TheCrow I feel your pain. I have some little outdoor lights which are battery operated. I bought a longer string to go round my patio and they sound similar to yours . Can't get them through a window or door so am giving them to DS as indoor lights for their tree ( lights - not a decoration in my case so not a nodding reindeer or blow up Father Christmas ) 😂

For next year, have an external weatherproof socket fitted and use a weatherproof accessory box to plug the lights in. Use an extension lead (of whatever length is necessary) to connect between the two.
Many external lights have bulky transformers that won't fit inside a weatherproof socket but do fit inside the weatherproof box (various sizes available).

We're in a rented house so can't fit an external socket unfortunately. It just seems like a fairly big design flaw because I imagine the majority of customers aren't going to have outdoor sockets and would be passing the wire through a window/door but can't without leaving the window open

Through the letterbox?

Through the letterbox?

I was going to suggest this too as this is what we do (although our letterbox is in the wall rather than the door)

Through the letterbox?

That's what we do. We have 4 sets of outdoor lights and cable tie them together and put them through the letter box.

Our front door leads into a hallway with no plug socket, wondering now if that's what most people do though!
