Do raw carrots & sprouts need to be refrigerated?

Big Christmas shop being delivered tomorrow. 3 packets of carrots, 2 packets of sprouts on the way (along with many, many other things).
Can I keep the raw carrots and sprouts on the counter until Christmas Day or should they be refrigerated?
Just trying to save fridge space!

If you have a garden put them out there in a bag. They don’t need to be as cold as the fridge but do better cold than the warm of your kitchen.

Ours are in the conservatory, with no heating on.

Failing that I was going to put them in the garden in a plastic bag

FluffyBox · 21/12/2025 17:43

I mean I always keep mine in the fridge but come to think of it, when I get them from the shops they’re not refrigerated….. so I’m totally confused now and await the replies 🫣

I’ve got all my veg in bags in the garage.

HouseAshamed · 21/12/2025 17:44

Depends on how cold the room is.

shellyleppard · 21/12/2025 17:44

I took my vegetables out of the plastic wrapping and put in a cardboard box out in the shed. Nice and cool for them 😂

Keep carrots somewhere cool.
Throw the spouts into the rubbish.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Sprouts are an elite vegetable.

Coconutter24 · 21/12/2025 17:59

I would either refrigerate or keep in garage or a cool place

Pineapplewaves · 21/12/2025 18:03

Ours are in a box in the garage along with cans of beer and fizzy drinks, bottles of mixers and bottles of wine - I find it’s colder in the garage than the fridge so the drinks are always nicely chilled.

SnippySnappy · 21/12/2025 18:11

Thanks everyone, I'll put them in the garage in a box!

Really hope not. Ours are on table in the garden

Sminty2 · 21/12/2025 18:18

I put mine in the boot of the car. Veg, drinks and fruit.

TalulahJP · 21/12/2025 19:40

if i put food out in a bag the foxes and rats would get into it overnight, and the damn magpies during the day 🤣

Id defo need a sturdy lidded box.

I used to to do that till the rats got to them

maddiemookins16mum · 21/12/2025 19:47

Mine go in black pillow cases in the garage.

mazedasamarchhare · 21/12/2025 20:08

No they don’t need to be refrigerated. But obviously if where you store them is warm, they won’t last so long. Brussels will last longer than carrots. Make sure you take them out of plastic wrapping/ bag, as they’ll sweat which will reduce longevity.

Maryberrysbouffant · 21/12/2025 20:13

I put mine in the garage
