I have two people left to buy for and I cannot think of anything to get them. They are always the most difficult people to buy for but for different reasons.

  1. woman, early 50s, very trendy, loves designer, buys whatever she wants when she wants. No hobbies. Doesn’t really drink alcohol and isn’t a huge foodie either.

  2. man, early 50s, not trendy and wouldn’t appreciate the designer/ more expensive items, doesn’t drink alcohol, doesn’t eat chocolate or anything “unhealthy”, no hobbies but enjoys walking the dog.

Get number 1 something from somewhere that sells a good range and then give her the receipt in an envelope so she cam exchange. E.g. a local boutique you know she likes.

No, they are not a couple, thank God as they are chalk and cheese in every single way 😂

Tricky with no.2 because he’s single and won’t go anywhere by himself. As in, doesn’t see the value of attending events by himself! I bought him vouchers for a lovely local restaurant and he never used them because he didn’t fancy going and sitting alone.

I do have some good ideas so far but no.1 is so fussy, it’s almost not worth the risk buying anything. I think I’ll get her a voucher which does feel like a cop out but equally, I know she did use the voucher I bought her last year!

Wow that’s a lot of money to waste on unused vouchers.

could you not take them both out separately, maybe #2 for a pub meal he can bring his dog too, #1 a nice girls meal in a fancy restaurant she’d like?

Mydadsbirthday · 20/12/2025 23:18

My SIL last year got me some Victoria Beckham eyeliners - the cult ones that are all over social media. Great gift - they're about £30 each so you could get 3 colours

Another time she got me some v ££ nail varnishes that I would never have bought myself

Honestly, I don’t think he would come out with me, he would make too much of a fuss about me paying! He’s a bit socially awkward. The nicest person on the planet but not an “easy” person, for lack of a better word.

No.1 would love that though and maybe that’s the solution over buying her a voucher again. Thank you.

Mulberry silk pillowcase - there are some £££ ones in John Lewis and you can click and collect at Waitrose before Xmas

what About a gillet? Or very random, but my friend gave me a rechargeable torch, like the one attached, I love it, it’s small enough to carry around and has been perfect when looking for lost dog balls. It’s a lot less than your budget but it sounds like he would appreciate a small gesture over an expensive gift he won’t use.

No 1 what about some high end moisturiser or some nice earrings.
No 2. A head torch for walking the dog or maybe a nice book and bottle nice whiskey etc

MrsPositivity1 · 21/12/2025 00:08

No 1 Jo Malone candle
No 2 Turtle dove neck warmer

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 21/12/2025 00:32

No 1 - my age, sounds similar - can we have a silky kimono or fancier than normal dressing gown/robe to waft around in please? Failing that some great quality loungewear (rather than cheapie stuff we get ourselves)

No 2 - Lego. There’s loads of cool city scape Lego on Amazon and it’s more popular than you’d think! Or a decent flat cap for him and a matching one for his dog, it is ‘a thing’.

Or a rucksack with a flask and ball-thrower (for the dog) inside - to show you’ve thought of them both.

PS - please can I have the wafty kimono? Like one from a movie, where they have big fancy houses and big fancy coffee machines. I want to waft around in it, drinking my big fancy coffee….

Youraveragelass · 21/12/2025 18:21

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions! I’ve bought no.2 a beanie hat and gloves and no.1 I’ve bought 2x Victoria beckham eyeliners, a Charlotte tilbury lipstick and lipliner (in shade pillor talk). You don’t get much make-up for £100 these days!!

No 1 cashmere bed socks from White Company

No 2 really good quality walking socks

Mumofmarauders · 21/12/2025 21:03

Mossstitch · 20/12/2025 20:28

For nos 2, items for the dog, shampoo, dog treats, new lead or coat if it wears them. Perhaps a wooly hat, scarf, gloves for the owner for those chilly dog walks.

Yes or very warm socks for wearing under wellies - absolutely crucial on winter dog walks!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/12/2025 21:04

Posh candle for number one

MargotMoon · 21/12/2025 21:45

Maybe something from www.goodgifts.org as they don’t need anything for themselves

ilovelamp82 · 21/12/2025 21:51

Perfume, aftershave, tickets to something, a Hotel Chocolat velvetiser, jewellery, anything from Jo Malone goes down well with pretty much everyone, a massage voucher.

UniqueLilacSwan · 21/12/2025 21:53

I have a thought for #1. Look up the l’occitane hand creams and related products. My husband gets me their original hand cream every Christmas and I just love it!

Tryingatleast · 21/12/2025 21:57

For number two would a book on scenic places/ a photo book of nice places do at all? Number one a nice scarf and gloves set?

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 21/12/2025 22:12

Good quality scented candles.
