When Does the Fridge Thread Start?

I know there will always be the 'but the Cost of Living!', 'that's terribly gauche, you know', 'here's my baby spinach leaf and a dried prune, that'll do me until mid-February, we've all lost sight of what a normal refrigerator looks like' responses will always turn up at some point - but I love the thread every year.

Place marking… I am off to do my shop tomorrow!

Gliblet · 20/12/2025 18:59

Do people usually post photos? There'd be no point photographing mine - we did what I fervently hope will be the last pre-Christmas 'big' shop and the fridge is so full the salad's had to go in pressed up against the fronts of the shelves so it looks like the fridge is just rocket, rocket, spinach, cheese. I've optimistically bought trifle ingredients but if anyone actually wants trifle between now and about the 27th they're going to have to pray for cold weather 🤣

NotBreckfastAtTiffanysItsBreckfastInSouthampton · 20/12/2025 19:02

Oh can't wait!
I rarely have much in mine to be honest as we buy as we fancy as the season goes along but love seeing other peoples.

Rainbow1901 · 20/12/2025 19:22

Ours is crammed full! But I'm not intending to do any massive shops in January - just be eating all the leftovers which will have been frozen and loads of cheese!!

AquaForce · 20/12/2025 19:54

Mine's empty and (shock horror) will probably be switched off and defrosted as I go away every year for Christmas 😁

lolawasashitgirl · 20/12/2025 20:03

I love these threads but more so to play the bingo about ‘excess’ & greed.

piss off with yer wartime rations and show me gluttony

petitpasta · 20/12/2025 20:07

I have already evicted the top shelf of the fridge to a secure box outside - if anyone wants garlic, ginger, ketchup or jam they're going to get rather chilly getting it!

Am hoping we will have eaten some of it before the butchers order arrives on Monday!

Sgtmajormummy · 20/12/2025 20:09

In spite of getting a new fridge this year with a freezer that COULD be converted to fridge mode on special occasions like this, I have very little to show for myself.
Just a massive 4kg gammon.
Christmas on a Thursday works well for me.

kitchenplans · 20/12/2025 20:12

Mine's already heaving and I haven't yet had my meat or cheese deliveries, nor done my "final things with short dates" shop.

canklesmctacotits · 20/12/2025 20:18

I’ve been waiting for this thread, my fave of the year! Winding ours down as we’re going out then away but looking forward to everyone else’s!

Moonlightfrog · 20/12/2025 20:47

I just came to MN looking for the fridge thread, although I don’t post mine, I do love looking at others. My food shop comes tomorrow and I pick the rest up Monday, but it won’t be too exciting.

Glitterybee · 20/12/2025 20:52

FAVE POST OF THE YEAR!!!!!

can’t wait to see everyones🎄🙌

GRCP · 20/12/2025 21:44

I love these threads too - big shop delivery comes on Tuesday but the cheeee is already in!

Anononony · 20/12/2025 22:15

Ours looks mostly normal but with added cream, fizzy drinks, we're not big cheese snackers, most of the extra stuff we've got for christmas is ambient (crisps, chocolate etc) or frozen (mini sausage rolls/cocktail sausages/mini pizzas etc)

We are away visiting family from the 27th though so we don't want loads of leftovers that will spoil while we're gone

Looking forward to seeing what others have got!

Oooo good idea. We have a cabin across the patio that I keep drinks etc in but never thought of clearing out the jars for the week.

Bloody brilliant, off to start my own eviction.

MyMelody123 · 21/12/2025 01:38

Agreed re the jar shelf!! Genius. I’m going to do that tomorrow and stick them in a box outside.

washingfrenzy · 21/12/2025 06:48

I love Christmas Fridge. Mine will be Tuesday.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 21/12/2025 14:52

It’s going to be around between minus 1 and 4 degrees here (Midlands) between 24-26th so this is perfect temp for evicting lots of non- Christmas stuff - plus keeping drinks chilled.

MabelMoo23 · 21/12/2025 15:07

Ooh thank you. Love this thread as it hopefully might give me inspiration for the stuff I’ve not thought of.

my core Christmas memories is the food. The Yule log, the HUGE tins of quality street, the picky bits, trifle. Bloody love it.

so can’t wait for the fridge thread

Oblomov25 · 21/12/2025 15:08

Can't wait. Favourite thread EVER!

JohnBullshit · 21/12/2025 22:52

Mine is pretty ordinary, apart from the odd fancy pudding and cream with workable use by dates that I bought on Friday. Only one meat eater in the household, so no giant birds to accommodate. I suppose there's a fair few extra cheeses in there. DH gets a gold star for picking up the last box of M&S mushroom vol-au-vents in the shop while he was off out this afternoon.
Drinks will be slotted in somewhere when they need to be chilled. The fridge is tall, but I am not, and I can't risk essential supplies being out of reach.

We've got some small glass bottles of Diet Coke and one of a fizzy sloe flavoured soft drink (I think fizz tastes better from glass and it's easier to recycle, so a win-win) - they're going to go by the back doorstep to chill down.

Wasn't expecting the savoy cabbage to be quite so large, though, as it's the size of a kids' football - but it should keep us in colcannon for a bit.

JohnBullshit · 21/12/2025 23:47

I have a cabbage too, with a similar fate waiting for it. It seems a bit Spartan to have it dominating the fridge, what with all the rich food being posted, but I wouldn't be without it.
Slightly concerned about running short on the right kind of potatoes, but obviously they're not fridge food.

Oblomov25 · 23/12/2025 08:37

I really didn't want to be the 1st, but I suppose someone has to. Here it is. We have a big bag of veg in the shed!

I cleaned my fridge and freezer yesterday ready for the food delivery today. The jams and condiments we rarely use are sitting in a cool bag by the back door so the fridge has lots of space, at the moment.
