Tesco click and collect warning

DH went to Tesco to do our click and collect and there was no turkey. He was told it was unlikely that they'd have any more in before Christmas.

It was ordered about 4 weeks ago, there weren't any in the store either.

Unfortunately I would never risk ordering an off the shelf turkey from an online supermarket shop at Christmas. Tesco do festive food to order that you have to finalise a couple of weeks in advance that is ordered specifically and set aside for you, and that includes certain turkeys, but if you’ve just ordered like all the other groceries then it’s a risk as you aren’t ordering that in advance, it’s just whatever they have in stock on the day.

Seems a bit odd though as my Tesco had tons when I was in at the weekend.

Plenty of turkeys in Waitrose when I popped in today

Wishiwasatailor · 19/12/2025 21:47

Weird it was Turkey delivery day at my tesco and there ware loads of every kind!

intrepidpanda · 19/12/2025 22:45

They aren't keeping things by for you though. They wouldn't pick your stuff 4 weeks ago because you ordered 4 weeks ago. Could you imagine the state of your bananas

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 19/12/2025 22:47

We got our turkey in our Tesco delivery shop today thank goodness. Would have been a hunt without it. Try Waitrose, they will probably have some in.

ChristmasHug · 19/12/2025 22:47

There must be a prob with that tesco, you'll definitely get one elsewhere this weekend.

Our big local tesco has given turkeys away late on Xmas eve for years now - some gung ho families I know rely on it!

BrendaSmall · 19/12/2025 22:48

Went to our local Lidl today and they had sold out of all their cheap veg and their satsumas and other small oranges were all rotten!

EmeraldRoulette · 19/12/2025 22:50

@CharlotteCChapel you placed your order four weeks ago but you didn't pre-order it? So they pick from what they've got available.

I hate the term preorder but it's not like you ordered and paid four weeks ago, is it? That's not how Tesco works.

Dollymylove · 19/12/2025 22:58

Plenty at my local sainsburys

BoxFoxes · 19/12/2025 23:08

Did you do the Festive Food Pre Order? That’s the only way you can guarantee stuff. If you did then it’s really bad you didn’t get it

TheCurious0range · 19/12/2025 23:39

I got a free range turkey crown from Tesco tonight and they had loads

Mylittlelove · 20/12/2025 00:40

There’s been an outbreak of influenza amongst turkeys (family member works for Sainsbury’s in head office) so it wont be just tesco with shortages

pinkgown · 20/12/2025 01:30

Our Co-op had some today.

baubletime · 20/12/2025 07:16

Tesco with no turkey 5 days before Christmas? I can’t see that being right at all.

MidnightPatrol · 20/12/2025 08:44

I don’t think you’re going to struggle to track down a turkey at this time of year!

grinchmcgrinchface · 20/12/2025 08:46

Why would they keep a turkey aside because you picked 4 weeks ago? They pick it on the day. Everyone knows that. I always buy meat beginning of december and freeze it.

CharlotteCChapel · 20/12/2025 12:49

He's now fully explained and they do have turkeys in store but not the big one he wanted.

His theory is that they know they have x number of turkeys to go out each day and they should put them to one side and put the rest on the shelves.
