Would you like Santa to be real?

I mean on the one hand it would relieve a chunk of the financial stress that Christmas brings, you wouldn't have the hassle of shopping and wrapping for the kids, and you wouldn't have to try and find answers for tricky questions like 'Why does Santa bring other children trampolines and X-boxes but I only get a stocking with oranges and sweets?' On the other hand, it would be a bit creepy having him gain entry into your home in the middle of the night, even if you know he's benevolent! And there's the sweatshop angle of the elves, and the animals rights issues with the reindeers to be considered... It's a tough one!

If he delivers to adults, definitely! I'd love a few surprise gifts.

Wishing14 · 18/12/2025 21:23

So much!!! 😭

pizzaHeart · 18/12/2025 21:26

I would struggle a bit with the idea of him coming to the house mainly because we are shoes off and no pets house but if he does nice gifts I can do an exception once a year.

Added : I mean nice gifts for me

I hadn't even thought about that! Yes, that would be epic!

Ah, yes, there is that! The whole 'coming down the chimney' thing would really have its impact on the cream living room carpet!

God yeah 🤣 although I’d like him to be a magical mythical person that doesn’t actually think like a human because if he’s coming in my house where my children are sleeping that’s a bit weird 🤣

FancyCatSlave · 18/12/2025 21:41

Yes!!

I got a bit carried away with DD’s gifts this year, had a spreadsheet of the “santa”
ones and the “mummy/daddy” ones. Realised far too late that the Santa ones were on my credit card and not actually free…..think
I’d momentarily forgotten that 😳

Vitriolinsanity · 18/12/2025 21:43

He wouldn’t get round the world with the amount of times he’d need to take his boots on and off in MN houses.

I believe that’s why he just hangs in Lapland now and only receives the faithful. I met him. He’s utterly real.

BlakeCarrington · 18/12/2025 21:46

Hell No!

Creepy, suspiciously jolly old fat guy contorting down your chimney then wandering round the house while everyone’s asleep.

And what if someone’s on the naughty list that year - what horrors might befall them 😱

pinkksugarmouse · 18/12/2025 21:53

No. A strange bloke creeping around people's houses doesn't sound appealing to me. My cats would be horrified. They run upstairs if anyone knocks our door or if someone puts something through the letterbox.

Sprookjesbos · 18/12/2025 21:57

Definitely no. Imagine lying awake wondering what really annoying gifts he might deliver your children that you hadn't prepared for! Or worrying you'd got them the same thing!

whereisit1 · 18/12/2025 22:02

Haha what a fun question! It would be lovely if he was real. I remember so vividly being a child and 100% believing, it was the highlight of Christmas. Not necessarily the presents but the magic of it all

I have a friend who bought 2 xboxes to "prove" his existance. So mummy and daddy returned theirs and bought another present. One doubtful wee boy 100% convinced for a good while.

Mumofteenandtween · 18/12/2025 22:16

I’m a bit concerned about the size of my chimney. I would not want to wake up on Xmas morning to a pair of dangling legs!

TokyoSushi · 18/12/2025 22:29

I would love it, especially if it was completely magic like it is supposed to be and he either fit down all chimneys or gas a magic key to all houses and was just completely lovely!

Kickinthenostalgia · 18/12/2025 22:35

I mean it would take away my whole military operation every Christmas Eve… I could actually get to bed same time as dc 😂😂

Solaire18381 · 18/12/2025 22:36

It would make life a lot less stressful! However, I agree it would be a bit spooky too!

MeouwKing · 18/12/2025 22:38

Too right. I ask for a Porsche, and I get one. Though my sister reckons I could never achieve the appropriate level of being good to be granted a Porsche.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 18/12/2025 22:41

I’m good with having never done Santa in my house, gifts are from each other and that’s where the real magic is. I’m good without Santa being real

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 18/12/2025 23:58

Yes would save staying up till 2am when my dcs finally fall asleep- no matter what we do to tired them out it doesn't work last year 6 mile walk and a playcentre didn't do the trick. They were buzzing. Yet santa don't even bring the decent stuff just stocking fillers. We get the big ticket items .

NuffSaidSam · 19/12/2025 00:33

But would it not add a while other level of stress through the year to be good? And make sure your kids are good?

And what if you've got one child who's good and one who is a bit of a shit? Are you going to let it play out? Or get up early and put some fake presents out for the naughty one?

What if that's how you find out your partner is having an affair? No presents and you wonder why. What's he done to be naughty...you start digging...before you know it Christmas is ruined.

OnlyTwelveDays · 19/12/2025 06:16

Only if the whole naughty or nice thing wasn't part of it, and he delivered to all children regardless

GooseyGandalf · 20/12/2025 08:44

The whole naughty/nice list is just unnecessary admin. I think if he were real that would have to be dropped.

Notmyreality · 20/12/2025 08:45

What, are you saying he isn’t?!?!?!😳

Christmas ruined 😢

Only on MN would you having anyone saying they wouldn’t want Santa to be real because they’re a shoes-off house! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🎅🏻🎄
