Do Lidl have good discounts on Christmas Eve?

On a big budget this year. I do all my food shopping at Lidl as it's closest to me, but I've never been on Xmas eve before. Do they have orange sticker discounts does anyone know? e.g. reduced meat, cheeses etc? We're not hosting this year, it's just me, DH & DC and none of us are fussed about a big Christmas dinner. I'm tempted to leave the food shopping late and see what bargains I can pick up...

You might go too late and struggle to get anything you need.

@CandyCaneKisses That's sort of the point. We don't really 'need' anything. DH isn't remotely interested in food & DC would happily eat pizza for Xmas dinner (which I have all the ingredients to make), hence why I'm wondering about leaving it late & just seeing what I can pick-up cheap.

A friend bought their vegebox today for 8 pence! I thought it was £1.50 as a rule. Or did he mean to type 80 pence.

@Augustus40
All their Christmas veg (potatoes, parsnips, sprouts etc.) is 8p a bag, dropping to 5p next week. I've already stocked-up...

All their veg are now down to 5p a bag.

Probably, if you can be adventurous and adaptable.

Wow

The 8p veg is already there so I’d buy it now. I’ve bought a fresh turkey for £4 before and froze it as we were away for Christmas (I was in there to buy flowers but couldn’t resist a trolley full of bargains

Savvyshopper81 · 18/12/2025 18:11

@gogomomo2 A £4 turkey is exactly the sort of thing I’m after!

It can really be hit and miss and even the same store will have different things left one year to the next. From lidl, I've found the popular cheeses are often all gone, sometimes no cream, milk, puff pastry, beef, sausage meat or eggs left. They had bags of Brussels for 1p each one time. Also lebkucken and ginger type Christmas biscuits all reduced one time. Another year- the Christmas themed crips/biscuits weren't reduced till after new years.

Sometimes, DH and I do a last minute drive around our local shops. At Aldi I bought 2 capons for £3 each one year. I also bought the very, last turkey in a Morrisons once for £5.

Check the dates of Christmas cheeses and pates. They are often a date in Jan and the day or day before their best before- they are often very cheap. Especially the cheese inside wax lasts months but hard cheeses and pate can be frozen. If you already have your basics and its really just finding any bargains/freezer things then its certainly worth a look.
