I haven't changed my shopping habits. I shop every day.

I've made a few things and put them in the freezer, and will continue to do that for the rest of this week. So far, I have made (assembled) pigs in blankets, two types of stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, toffee sauce, red cabbage, caramelised onions. I'll be moving on to the nut roast today, and as much of canapes I can make up to being able to put them in the freezer. I'll bake over the weekend, but that uses store-cupboard ingredients.

We'll have a houseful from the 21st, so will just shop for and cook what we need for each day.

My "big shop" will take place 22nd/23rd, but will basically just be the turkey and vegetables.

Collecting my M&S food order on the 23rd.

FourFiveEightNine · 16/12/2025 07:30

I do love the way 99% of us are sneakily stealing a march on the crowd by opting for the 23rd! 😂😂

Nochoiceofuser · 16/12/2025 08:00

We have family come over Christmas eve so no last minute shopping here. Already got most of the non-perishables, Christmas dinner is prepped and in the freezer, fresh fruit, salad, bread etc will be bought 22nd/23rd. I get anxious if things are left too close so like to be fairly organised (and yes I have lists everywhere 😆)

whymadam · 16/12/2025 10:08

08h30 on 23rd Dec

middleagedandinarage · 16/12/2025 10:50

Doing a bigish shop for all the non perishables 18th. Click and collect booked 23rd for the main bits, would like to think that's it but in reality will probably land in the shop xmas eve for anything i've forgotten

I found I still had so much food left over for weeks afterwards so I don’t really do a big Christmas shop anymore unless I have people coming over. So I now buy bits and pieces (pigs in blankets, prawns etc) in early December and put them in the freezer, then I get the veg at my small local supermarket. Saves so much stress. This year, for the first time we are not having turkey.

BeanQuisine · 16/12/2025 11:23

I have a big supermarket delivery coming up on the 19th but will doubtless visit other shops before Christmas Eve.

FletchFan · 16/12/2025 11:27

Christmas eve maybe. Not bothered with deliveries last couple of years as there's always been loads of inadequate substitutes so have ended up going to the shops anyway, and the shops always have everything you need.

Focusispower · 22/12/2025 15:13

Just to update - I went to our local high street this morning. Busy but not overwhelming and loads of staff in so quicker than usual to get through the checkout. Shelves well stocked with all the bits you might want and need for Christmas and the days around it. Decent range of turkeys etc. The only thing I noticed that wasn’t well stocked was wrapping paper in Waitrose which was almost sold out and M&S novelty biscuit/treat tins which had all sold out - but I bet I can still get them if I go to the big one in town.

Tbh I think there was so much stuff on the shelves that I’m expecting to see a ton of yellow sticker stuff by Christmas Eve rather than a shortage….

Theda13 · 22/12/2025 15:15

I done mine at M&S this morning. It was absolutely rammed, but there’s no surprises there.

Clefable · 22/12/2025 15:38

Just two subs from Tesco, neither of them important. Woohoo!

StupidHappyClocks · 22/12/2025 17:34

I did our shop this morning. Supermarket was fully stocked and eerily quiet. Got everything on my list.

I’ll get flowers & trifle tomorrow, more milk & bread + fruit on Christmas Eve.

Anjo2011 · 22/12/2025 17:43

This is the first year for a while that I haven’t done a pre order for my M&S items. I went this morning when they opened at 7am and got every I needed including turkey crown and desserts and there were no queues. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I will go locally tomorrow to get the veg and other bits I need.

BeanQuisine · 22/12/2025 17:54

Just have to get some nice new season potatoes tomorrow, some fresh garlic and some more wines and cognac, then that's me done.

QueenStevie · 22/12/2025 18:05

No where is opening until 6am here. I am going tomorrow at 6am. I absolutely love it! I actually really lol forward to it and have a lovely time. I leave for work around 6:45 each day so it doesn't seem ridiculous.

mondaytosunday · 22/12/2025 18:17

Delivery coming the 24th (booked early November) my son is collecting the turkey, pigs n blankets and Boxing Day ham from the butchers on the 23rd. I’ve been to the supermarket twice in the last couple days and yikes it was rammed.

stupidannoyingtaxthing · 22/12/2025 22:10

Our big delivery arrives tomorrow. I’ve been going in and amending the order now and then, as I’ve thought of things I wanted to add.

Just found this screenshot I took late last night of results from a search for crème fraiche in the Sainsbury’s app 😁

FairViewRosie25 · 22/12/2025 22:14

Picking up Sainsbury’s main bits Xmas eve. Got everything else just need milk (and more wine)

Tumbleweed101 · 22/12/2025 23:18

Done and finished today.

Harrysmummy246 · 23/12/2025 17:33

Click and collect at Sainsbury's relatively painless and the one mildly crap sub has been worked around. Other subs are fine and actually will give us some cash back. All in the fridge so I'm basically on autopilot now

sweetpickle2 · 23/12/2025 17:49

Did mine at about 10 this morning, wasn’t any busier than a regular busy day like a Saturday and they had loads of stock.
