Help - 4 year old’s impossible Father Christmas ask

Custardapples · 14/12/2025 16:03

4 year old’s requests from Father Christmas are very modest but include Sarah and Duck gloves. These do not exist and I am certainly not enough of a knitter to create some. Any ideas of a suitable substitute?! I can’t even find ordinary duck gloves except some possibly dodgy ones on Amazon.

Are there no sellers on Etsy that do customisable sew-on patches? You could then buy some cheap gloves and sew the patches on yourself??

Diblin93 · 14/12/2025 16:12

I just had to Google Sarah and Duck gloves. Apparently, there’s an old lady who sells ‘various’ gloves and scarves are they become the start of adventures. I imagine the idea is something like Mr Ben and the fancy dress shop. Could you find some themed gloves/scarves like unicorn or animal paws???

Diblin93 · 14/12/2025 16:17

I did a search ‘kids themed gloves’ on Amazon. There’s loads of- kittens, dinosaurs etc.. and delivery is in time for Christmas.

Sunshineofyourlove · 14/12/2025 16:19

This is so adorable 😍

I miss having little ones.

I hope you find the perfect solution!

Custardapples · 14/12/2025 16:23

I think I will have to go with some other themed gloves and accompany them with a note of some kind. It’s weird that there aren’t duck gloves for kids readily available.
I’m not keen on Amazon options as the quality tends to be really poor in my opinion.

Can you find patches that would work and either sew or hemming web/fabric glue them onto the back of a pair of plain gloves ?

Whichone2024 · 14/12/2025 16:30

Could you get a couple of these? Maybe remove the pin bit and tune them into a button for the gloves or something?

There are sellers on Etsy that make iron on embroidered patches based on your design. If you upload an image they will create it and you can apply to gloves & more. You can say scarf lady made them 🙂)

But you need to be quick as some delivery estimates are post Christmas
I LOVE Sarah and Duck and am still bereft that DD7 outgrew them long before I have

DallasMajor · 14/12/2025 16:44

Don't worry about the quality, or if they will last. Four year old won't mind about that, it is a lovely thing to want.

housethatbuiltme · 14/12/2025 20:05

I would just get some iron on transfer paper and print a Sarah and Duck image and iron them on to cheap gloves.

They might not last forever but lets be honest winter will be like 3 more months at a push and she'll have out grown them next year if she doesn't loose one before that.

Just use it as an opportunity to teach the lesson that you’re just giving him ideas and he can’t bring everything. I have no idea why people tie themselves up in knots trying to get all things off the list.

Because of course it could only be the woman that knitted the gloves 🙄

for God's sake there is time enough for the grim realities of life. It's a 4 year old wanting a pair of gloves for Christmas.

Point taken, I know zero men IRL that knit but my 31 year old son does make soft toys😊. Also Santa is too busy feeding reindeer and attending school fairs to knit, and in my world the woman always gets the blame when we have run out of something!

Porkpieandmustard · 14/12/2025 22:27

Some lovely ideas here @CustardapplesI hope you get something organised.
A lovely wish from your little one. I love Sarah and Duck.

RebeccaDecember · 14/12/2025 22:32

Big Sarah and Duck fan here 👋🏻 in the Christmas episodes, Sarah
wears plain red gloves. Could you get them and say now she has Sarah’s gloves.. then get some other Sarah and Duck clothing from their official shop to go with it?

pastabest · 14/12/2025 22:37

Iron on transfer paper from amazon and print a pic out and iron it on to some gloves.

That's what I do for 'emergency' stuff for anything school related. Every clothing related emergency can be resolved with a stash of iron on transfer paper and a printer.

WeNeedToTalkAboutIT · 14/12/2025 23:14

Can you find either a light coloured plain cotton pair of gloves in her size, or leather gloves in her size? Then print a suitable sized Sarah and a suitabke sized duck (I think Sarah on one hand and Duck on the other would look v cute) and either use transfer paper and an iron or fabric transfer medium to transfer onto the fabric of the glove. The more I think about it, the more I think leather gloves would hold the design best.

Depending on how crafty you are/ or somebody you know is, you have the option of painting or pyrography onto leather, too.

I'm good enough (I.e. not a pro) at pyrography and have the tools, if you want to find little leather gloves and send them to me and pay the postage to get it from me to you, I'd be happy to pyrograve (burn) a line drawing onto leather gloves if you can find some.
