From end of December up until a few days ago I was SO excited for Christmas.

And now I just feel flat. I want to find my Christmas spirit again.

Is anyone else going through a lull right now?

Any ideas how to feel festive again?

I think it is just reality kicking in! So up until now it was an exciting thing to look forward to and then suddenly there are presents to wrap, kids stuff to do, people to see, obligations, meal planning, cleaning!! It becomes overwhelming! You will find it again I am sure.

AnneofBohemia · 11/12/2025 13:02

I’d say to just let it be for now. It’s only early/ mid December! No one can really stay festive and upbeat cheery for weeks on end. See how you feel on 21st December.

pizzaHeart · 11/12/2025 13:04

Agree with @mumonthehill
you need a quiet slow day or an evening.
by the way if you were looking forward from the last December it was just too much of a build up,

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/12/2025 13:04

It’s only the 10th of December…

A hamster could have sex today and still give birth before Christmas.

You have AGES to get Christmassy.

latetothefisting · 11/12/2025 13:06

Agree with the pp that it's hard/impossible to sustain a festive high for an entire month -you'll probably get there again if you finish work or similar....but other than that, not to state the obvious but maybe try something Christmassy? Walk around looking at lights/put some tunes on? Watch a film?

something small rather than going to a big festive market or something because paying £8 for a hot chocolate and being crammed into a small space with hundreds of strangers tends to put me off rather than enchant me, but up to you!

Tryingatleast · 11/12/2025 13:07

TheLightSideOfTheMoon

Said exactly what we all were thinking 🤔😉 Hope it comes back soon op x

ImFineItsAllFine · 11/12/2025 13:39

Me too, I think everything seemed to get going just a little bit too early this year and now it feels like we're losing festive momentum a bit. Can you plan something specifically Christmassy for the weekend?

Iknowdino · 11/12/2025 13:44

Aww, I think you've just peaked a bit too soon. Maybe have a few days off and it will come back. I find it's always exciting at the start of the month, then I have a mid month panic, then I calm back down and enjoy once I know the bit stuff is done and sorted.

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 11/12/2025 14:27

I know what you mean OP. For various reasons (mostly financial) I haven’t been able to start shopping yet and it’s all going to be a big rush next week. Plus my job is vv stressful right now with lots of changes going on. Add to that I lost my dear brother almost a year ago. I’m finding it hard to get into the spirit. Might just have to fake it till I make it!

TheChosenTwo · 11/12/2025 14:32

I haven’t put my tree up yet, we haven’t done any Christmas decorating and I’m looking forward to the weekend, I’ve got a lovely meal out with friends planned and then we are going to get our tree with some other friends on Sunday and have a nice pub lunch planned with them too on the way back from the farm. That’s when I start feeling festive.
And I tend to be able to maintain Christmassy momentum because it’s less than 2 weeks to go.
Ive only just really started my shopping, I can’t be doing with boxes and bags and deliveries being stored in my house for ages.
some people start early (not saying this is you op!) and run out of steam. Peak too soon. We have a pretty condensed window of festivities and it’s quite enjoyable really.

This is such a specific measurement of time… hamster pregnancies.

MissyB1 · 11/12/2025 15:06

I haven’t even started. I don’t expect to feel christmassy for another week yet, going to my first Christmas event next Friday night so will hopefully get into it then. You definitely peaked too early.

Maybe I did peak too soon!

Perhaps a Christmas cheeseboard will perk me up this weekend! 😉

I agree with the advice of just letting it be for now. There are still days and days before Christmas, it's easy to get overwhelmed if you dive deep into the preparations right now. If there are things to do (decorating, gift shopping), take it slow. If you're making christmas cards, you can get creative by using actual photos of people you're sending the cards to and adding a Christmas background to them (here is a tutorial for that kind of montage). If there are no grand plans and you don't really prepare, then leave it as it is. Take a walk, enjoy city decorations as many have already gone up, maybe try a new recipe or a get yourself a fancy seasonal drink, etc. There is still plenty of time to get into that festive mood, but not getting into it is fine too. Go easy on yourself, festive season might be exhausting.

itsalwayssunnyhere · 12/12/2025 10:59

Also just wanted to add, I haven't had a Christmas spirit this early for years now. It's normally around December 23rd or so when I start feeling excited about it!

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2025 14:33

@Owlmoonstar a cheeseboard will definitely help those those festive vibes along, especially if you invite someone along to share. Like me for example.

🤣🤣 come along.

Which selection of cheeses should we indulge in?

My friend died suddenly and it has been difficult to think about Christmas, or feel any joy. I will have to fake it this year.

WonderingWanda · 13/12/2025 09:01

Maybe you are coming down with something or just need a rest. I've been ill this week and am just starting to feel better but I couldn't even muster up the energy to care about what was for dinner....which is unheard of because I normally love eating.

inthewoodss · 13/12/2025 10:34

I've had exactly the same this year, OP. I think it's the weather as well - late Nov was very cold and crisp and felt very festive, but it's now mild and wet again. Would love it if the few days in the run-up were properly cold and frosty.

It is extremely mild for this time of year. Even my 9 year old son mentioned it!
