I like butter so would rather have Vegetarian. Anyone seen any? Prepared I'm afraid

No I made a cashew and parsnip nut roast mix wrap that around brie and cranberry and then wrap the lot in puff pastry. I imagine you could use soy or Quorn mince but I wouldn't. How about taking the skin off veggie sausages?

Lidl have them frozen.

BeansAndNoodles · 09/12/2025 06:49

No, the only ones I've seen have been vegan. It wouldn't be too hard to make one using sosmix, cranberries, and all butter ready made puff pastry though. I know you said pre prepared but there would be very little to do!

I haven't tried it yet but Sainsbury's Plant Pioneers one has a faux meat filling with a layer of chopped mushrooms between the faux meat and pastry

Pastry is pastry - much ready made pastry is vegan by default because they use cheaper ingredients. The Lidl finest vegan wellingtons are really delicious.

I'll have to have a think about this but thanks for suggestions

Would a vegan one with butter brushed on it before cooking work?

Allthings · 09/12/2025 09:47

Most to the wellingtons are mushroom or butternut squash based. Lidl to a vegan sausage type wreath, but obviously it has not butter. I have had it in the past and it’s pretty reasonable, enough to have one currently sitting in the freezer (although not for Christmas Day).

Abel & Cole have a few veg/an wellingtons in their Christmas sale offerings.

hexsnidgett · 09/12/2025 11:52

Premade veggie wellingtons are usually horrible and nothing like a Wellington it's just mush with cranberries in Envy
Better to have a nice veggie sausage roll, you can buy all butter puff pastry and use your favourite veggie sausages inside.

The Richmond vegetarian sausages have the sort of consistency that you could use for veggie sausage meat - they are the closest thing I have seen
