Anyone else alone for Christmas?

I’m alone for Christmas, can’t afford to go away. Is anyone else in the same situation?

Are you completely alone with no family or friends around?

RoamingToaster · 07/12/2025 09:18

There are a few other threads here. You’re not the only one

Yes, other half will be away so I'm here on my tod. Absolutely fine, not the first time I've had to fly solo. I have no other family so will spend it with my kitty!

Even worse. Working

I would love to be alone - everyone is different of course, but I've had so many disappointing Christmas's that I plan to stick to my guns next year & opt out of Christmas day.
I will happily engage in the run up - but I won't be engaging in the actual day. I live alone & find it all too much.
Time to be true to myself.

Yes, completely alone

There’s always lots of ‘alone at Christmas’ type threads so you’ll find lots of people in the same position who share their plans. They usually sound like they have a great day planned.

While it’s not the same it may just be me and DD this year as sometimes spending it with family can spoil the day.

Goditsmemargaret · 07/12/2025 11:00

Do you have any ideas OP of what you would like to do with the day that we could help you build on?

FiercelyFree · 07/12/2025 11:04

This will be my seventh Christmas alone. I allow myself a day of doing exactly what I want with no guilt for being lazy! Breakfast in bed with my three cats, walk in the park, coffee, reading, TV, long bath. I plan a lovely meal and just relax. So much less stressful that when I was married!

I am completely alone, apart from my cat. Parents both dead, siblings in another country, husband in a care facility following a stroke. I have very limited mobility due to arthritis. Just getting round to decorating my tree - even though there is no one but me to see it I deserve joyful rituals.

Im self employed so I close my online shops and put on the autoresponder. From Christmas Eve to the day after New Years Day I dont even check emails. I have no special plans for any of the days. A relative will come over and bring dinner one of the days and we will share a bottle of wine. Thats the only person I will probably see overr the whole period. For the rest I just do exactly what I like. Probably watching a bit of Netflix or similar, sleeping in and treating myself to the off glass of Baileys. I dont normally drink.
