DD doesn't want socks ...What does she want?

DD, 21, has said Christmas isn't exciting any more.
She doesn't want socks (she is getting socks but that is by the by).

She is a 'young' 21, with some MH issues, still at college.

Loves animals, being at home and feeling safe. Needs some joy.

Won't appreciate: books (dyslexic), jewellery, make up, smelly things, tickets to anywhere loud.

Is half way through a lego project of the Weasley's house so doesn't need any more of that unless a smaller set. Has a snuggly fleece.

Any suggestions for under £50?

Rechargeable hot water bottle. Lovely even when curled up watching a film.

Weighted blanket

Would she cope with jigsaw puzzles. Craft book nooks might be tricky, as can be fiddly, but lego are doing book nooks but might be out of price range

Heated throw, one of my all time favourite Christmas presents

BoxingHares22 · 04/12/2025 16:01

Watching with interest! A jigsaw?

BoxingHares22 · 04/12/2025 16:03

I’m intrigued by these book nooks. What are they made of? Can you tell me more and can anyone recommend a specific one?

My dds (18, 22 and 25) would all appreciate a jellycat. They also like socks!

This is what I thought, if you are just hoping to bring joy then jellycat - they seem to be the acceptable/collectible plushy for the teens and young adults.

Jigsaws.
mindful colouring
stuff for bedroom walls.
craft kits. Such as a start knitting kit.
A lovely mug
nice version of whatever hot drink she likes

Brickiscool · 04/12/2025 16:14

Lego flowers

A snooze band. You can listen to music or stories comfortably in bed. My autistic 18 year old loves hers

Alicorn1707 · 04/12/2025 16:14

many suggestions for this; Hygge blanket

sittingonabeach · 04/12/2025 16:16

@BoxingHares22 book nooks can be mixture of card, thin wood, paper and plastic. Although Lego are now making some too. The finished article is usually the size of a book to fit on a book shelf, hence the name. They are a miniature version of something, like a miniature dolls house where you make everything

I'd look at Rolife branded kits on Amazon for starting out, and get some decent glue too - I've got 2 for me for Xmas and was recommended Aleene's tacky glue.

A jigsaw could be good if I can find a nice 500 piece one. (I'll need to like it too as jigsaws are a family affair.)

Do you already have a jigsaw roll?

No, but we just do them on the dining room table, I think a roll would be superfluous.

Would she be interested in lighting the Lego?
I'd recommend tail lighting as you semi dismantled the set take out a brick then put the lighted brick in, no more fiddly than Lego.
I've attached a picture of my DDs with lights in

@itsmeits Oh that looks nice but I don't think she would. I have ordered today the Knight Bus for her though.

Would highly recommend Wentworth jigsaws if you haven't already discovered them. Huge range of designs, sizes, difficulty level with high quality wooden pieces. Everything from small mindful puzzles to huge family ones.

Ponderingwindow · 04/12/2025 18:39

She always needs another Lego set. One can never have too many. Having a back catalog ready to go is part of the thrill.

if she enjoys a weighted blanket, get her a weighted stuffed animal. The best ones have weighting in the arms so you can position them nicely.

TeenToTwenties · 04/12/2025 18:46

She enjoys lego in fits and starts, she got The Burrow for Christmas last year, built half then put it to one side and has only just picked it up again. It is more the Harry Potter than the lego in a lot of ways.

I'm pretty happy now, Knight Bus, a jigsaw to be sourced, and maybe an Alpaca walk (there are 3 near us I have found).

Thank you all.

(What she really needs is a bigger bedroom to take a larger snake tank, but that's another story).

What about a kitten

TeenToTwenties · 04/12/2025 18:51

Deadringer · 04/12/2025 18:48

What about a kitten

2 guinea pigs and 1 snake are enough.
We have said no more pets.
(I end up doing more care than I would like already, plus they inhibit going away, plus I'm the one at home and would feel hemmed in by a cat/dog).
