DD doesn't want socks ...What does she want?

DD, 21, has said Christmas isn't exciting any more.
She doesn't want socks (she is getting socks but that is by the by).

She is a 'young' 21, with some MH issues, still at college.

Loves animals, being at home and feeling safe. Needs some joy.

Won't appreciate: books (dyslexic), jewellery, make up, smelly things, tickets to anywhere loud.

Is half way through a lego project of the Weasley's house so doesn't need any more of that unless a smaller set. Has a snuggly fleece.

Any suggestions for under £50?

An Audible subscription?

An Audible subscription?

You'd think, but we tried that and she struggled to find things.

(Just found a lego Knight Bus that could be good. Amazing how asking for guidance clears the mind.)

Heated blanket? I love mine for bed.

Scampuss · 04/12/2025 11:17

Zoo experience day?

Book nook kit

WorkBreakingMe · 04/12/2025 11:18

I absolutely recommend Book Nooks (model kits, look them up online!) Clintons sell them now too in the UK. They are so much fun and look lovely once they're finished.

My dds (18, 22 and 25) would all appreciate a jellycat. They also like socks!

JassyRadlett · 04/12/2025 11:19

Is she crafty? Embroidery kit (Paraffle are lovely and great instructions for beginners) or paint by numbers kits can be lovely recreational thing with something to show for it at the end.

More grown up logic/strategy puzzles and games might be good.

Fernleigh22 · 04/12/2025 11:37

Jellycat sounds like it ticks the box

I have a dd like this.

Thanks for the book nook rec, have never heard of them! They look great

Second a heated blanket, soft cushion.

My DD loves her microwaveable heat pack.

Jellycat great idea.

The Make Arcade have great small and larger craft kits.

Loop earplugs?

Bone conducting headphones? Useful when you want background music/podcast but dont want to block everything out

Pony trekking session at local stables

Timeforabitofpeace · 04/12/2025 11:56

What is this jellycat? Is it just a cuddly toy?

Lebkuched · 04/12/2025 12:10

This girl NEEDS an Alpaca walk!

Lebkuched · 04/12/2025 12:11

My dd15 is also loving the sewing machine she has inherited. She mainly uses it for art projects but has done some crafty bits too!

TMMC1 · 04/12/2025 12:12

Please DO NOT give her socks. Have a few years off that. She is a difficult age. You need to demonstrate you are listening to her

PermanentTemporary · 04/12/2025 12:13

I’d agree with animal experience tickets, having something to look forward to on Christmas Day could help perk things up.

Milk frother? (More of a stocking present)

parietal · 04/12/2025 12:15

Hot chocolate machine?

Overpriced, but rather adorable soft toys. You want a turtle? Tick. Cuddly skateboard? Tick. Graduate egg? Tick. In short, anything you can think of, in soft toy form.

Inahuff · 04/12/2025 12:28

Is she into colouring? Ive always liked a colouring book and some new felt tio pens. Or some paints and canvases?

TeenToTwenties · 04/12/2025 12:37

Thank you all.

I think @Lebkuched wins with Alpaca walk as she hasn't done one of those before.

I forgot to say she also has dyspraxia so fiddly craft is out. You'd also think Jellycats would be good but her MH means she is no longer up for different soft toys. Logic/strategy puzzles don't work well with her either due to processing issues.

She has done pony trekking experiences and zoo keeping was covered in her college course (target training lemurs for example).

@TMMC1 maybe I'll remove the socks. They do have guinea pigs on though. She does actually love her special socks, it's not that she doesn't like them, just they aren't fun and surprising.

Weighted blanket?

TeenToTwenties · 04/12/2025 12:53

@APatternGrammar She has one otherwise good suggestion,
@CatherinedeBourgh (great username), birds are a bit unpredicable for her sadly.

Merch from any beloved interest, fictional universe or band?

I am in my thirties and I would still appreciate a Hedwig teddy (love Harry Potter) or a Hellfire Club tshirt (love Stranger Things) for example.

They are the kind of things I would never buy myself as they seem quite frivolous but would spark so much joy!
