Neighbour blue flashing Christmas lights

I am gutted 😂. My tasteful warm white Christmas lights have been drowned out by my neighbours blue flashing lights that you could see from space.

I can see them inside my house - it’s like a blue light disco. I know I am a snob but it’s just awful (and I do realise they think the same about my boring warm white traditional look!).

The house opposite me has beautiful coloured lights filling all his trees. It would make me so happy to have those twinkling outside my window. Unfortunately my building is angled away, so what I can see instead is a block of flats, a busy main road and the new roundabout system which causes frequent bouts of road rage.
But I feel lucky now, because I dont have blue flashers to contend with.

Watch the bbc morning live programme from yesterday (thursday) this topic was duscussed by a lawyer and they suggested ways to mediate nicely as it's a common issue that can be resolved peacefully.

Ah that's rubbish op, I hate lights that flash unless it's a gentke twinkle, and really don't like white or blue, give me retro colours or warm white please! Although one neighbour has strung their trees with cool and warm white mixed together and that looks like a fairytale atm.

only psychopaths put up blue & cold white Xmas lights. Completely bonkers. House up the road is covered in them. Makes me feel so cold.

We have some like this 😬 in fact my husband just got up early, plugged them in by accident and I've just woken up in a panic thinking theres a police car outside. In our defence there are no houses opposite and our next door neighbours are moving anyway (I dont know why 😬)

How awful for you op - they are hideous

Blushingm · 07/12/2025 07:40

I’d just feel like there was a police raid?

I quite like delicately flashing warm white lights, or even twinkling multicoloured but the all blue ones can get in the bin.

stclementine · 07/12/2025 13:07

Hate the blue ones, even the blue ones in the coloured set on my tree. Anyway, the family across the road from me have gone for a massive - almost the size of the fucking house - plastic lit up santa. If thinking that is cheap, tacky, naff and anything else negative makes me a snob then bring it on.

Someone on my estate has had the electrician in most of last week installing under-soffit downlight/spotlights and ground level up lights.
Except the switching on was Friday night and it transpires that they can go from white downlighting to full on disco display! Like rainbow effects, full flashing of different colours depending on mood, to random 'chasing' colour patterns and more. This is the whole of the large 5 bed house and, for full effect, the two-bay detached garage.
Sitting in their house must be permanent disco feel.
And I am sure that flights are now using it as an outer marker for the airport...

This would drive me nuts. Blue flashing lights are a massive headache inducing distraction to drivers. Time for a petition to have them banned

As a driver they don’t bother me in the slightest, they are nothing like emergency lights, in fact I quite like them.
