Neighbour blue flashing Christmas lights

I am gutted 😂. My tasteful warm white Christmas lights have been drowned out by my neighbours blue flashing lights that you could see from space.

I can see them inside my house - it’s like a blue light disco. I know I am a snob but it’s just awful (and I do realise they think the same about my boring warm white traditional look!).

It’s not very ‘green’, to be just throwing electricity away on absurd crap lights. Has no one heard of reducing their carbon footprint?
I frankly think all excess lights are obscene.

Rhaenys · 04/12/2025 18:56

I hate the blue ones! They’re not very Christmassy at all to me.

Whichone2024 · 04/12/2025 19:10

I hate flashing lights and why do I have to press the button on my tree lights SO MANY times to get to the non flashing mode. Why can’t non flashing lights be first??!!!
I would struggle with blue lights flashing in my house but I’d just close the curtains lol

FlyMeSomewhere · 04/12/2025 19:12

Our neighbour across the road has put his outdoor lights up and he's got a really horrible erratic flashing mode on, I'm all for a gentle twinkling but his house looks like a rave! It's giving me Beetlejuice vibes!

Blue Christmas lights should be banned. The number of times I’ve slowed down looking to see if emergency services are trying to get through. Similarly radio adverts which include sirens. Don’t they think these things through?

chipshopElvis · 04/12/2025 19:34

I like them they're like icicles

Christwosheds · 04/12/2025 19:37

JudgeBread · 03/12/2025 19:02

The blue ones are fucking awful. Like I'm sorry are we celebrating Christmas or looking for blood stains at a fecking crime scene?

This. The blue LEDs are the most unpleasant to look at. Add in flashing … a neighbour had this a year or so ago, it was horrible.

ohtowinthelottery · 04/12/2025 19:55

I hate blue flashing Christmas lights. I think there's an ambulance in the street every time I walk through our hall. Thankfully, so far this year, the neighbours only have tasteful lights and tacky inflatable santas

HoppityBun · 04/12/2025 19:57

I don’t like flashing Christmas lights at all, I find them really jarring. But I don’t think I’m snobbish -well, I suppose nobody ever does think about themselves, do they? But I absolutely adore the completely over the top (how an earth do they afford it?) lights that are plastered on some houses around here. Brush, vulgar and utterly wonderful.

Checknotmymate · 04/12/2025 19:57

I hate all 'tasteful' lights. My towns Xmas lights are boring white bells. I want 1980s garish colours.

ClassicalQueen · 04/12/2025 19:58

I don’t like flashing lights. However I do have a set of warm white bulbs along the perimeter of the house which are set to steady.

LizzyMac40 · 04/12/2025 20:04

Our next door neighbour’s garden (front and side) looks like Blackpool illuminations. Lights everywhere and tied to the guttering all the way round the house! They also have the garden full of inflatables.🤷‍♀️ Flashing lights coming into our house is not our idea of being neighbourly.

Having some decorations are fine but not to the extent they have them. Another neighbour has coloured lights and white lights draped around their hedges and bushes and it looks tasteful in comparison.

Nincompoo · 04/12/2025 20:20

Blue is the least Christmassy colour of them all so I have no idea why anyone would choose them! Awful.

Mumblechum0 · 03/12/2025 19:32

Do a spot of hedge tidying and accidentally snip the wires?

in several places?

my first thoughts too...

gamerchick · 04/12/2025 21:05

The blue flashing ones are awful, but people slow to a crawl in the car because they think it's police.

Joystir59 · 04/12/2025 22:11

Our neighbours have a gleaming cold bright bluey white Christmas tree in their living room window that makes me shiver every time I look at it. Give me the traditional green red and gold colours and warm white lights every time. The weather's bad enough without putting up frosty looking decs

Bournetilly · 04/12/2025 22:14

I don’t like warm white (so boring) but blue is even worse. Colourful is the best.

You could ask them to change the settings, otherwise not much you can do.

Rantypanties · 04/12/2025 22:18

Luckily we don’t have anyone going full blue around us but I don’t get why manufacturers need to give 9 different options for the lights, there’s a fast flash on 3 different sets that I have (all supermarket ones) and it annoys me having to flick through just to get them to stay on static!

Joystir59 · 04/12/2025 22:22

In each of the two bedroom windows of our bungalow we have a small sequinned pink green and gold raindeer with red green and blue lights twinkling around their feet. I love them. That's it as far as anything visible to neighbours or the world at large.

sumayyah · 04/12/2025 23:13

Im team warm white non flashing lights
My daughters epileptic and flashing lights or even some coloured lights in dark areas set her off. Going out in December is a dice roll
My house is boring to look at, if I'm paying for decorations then I'm putting them where I can see them

mondaytosunday · 04/12/2025 23:17

the people behind my neighbours house have blue and white flashing lights in their garden. I don’t see it but my DD has a bedroom that side and said it’s totally obnoxious. Blue lights are terrible anyway, but outside lights shouldn’t flash.

crunchypeanutbutterontoast · 04/12/2025 23:18

Another hater of ‘emergency services’ blue lights here. Cold, harsh and surprisingly intrusive. Prefer warm white, but would happily take retro multicoloured lights over blue!

custardcreme77 · 04/12/2025 23:26

Electricsausages · 03/12/2025 21:14

Your lucky
by us looks like Blackpool illuminations

Same near me. Front garden, side garden, all around the ground floor, first floor and even on the dormer roof 😵‍💫Some static, some flashing, some strobe lights - bah humbug!

TheUsualChaos · 04/12/2025 23:58

Agree they are really intrusive! Our neighbours have had blue flashing lights for nearly 10 years and every year it reminds me I want to put some sort of curtain over the glass of the internal porch door to block out the lights from outside. But of course never get round to it and then Christmas comes round again and it looks like the emergency services are in the driveway.

Nutmuncher · 05/12/2025 00:02

Yuk, blue lights are so rough. Literally designed for those void of any taste. To have them flashing as well, I feel your pain. I imagine they have Astro turf lawn and a tv the size of a cinema screen.
