Neighbour blue flashing Christmas lights

I am gutted 😂. My tasteful warm white Christmas lights have been drowned out by my neighbours blue flashing lights that you could see from space.

I can see them inside my house - it’s like a blue light disco. I know I am a snob but it’s just awful (and I do realise they think the same about my boring warm white traditional look!).

Living in an area where the most supported football team is Arsenal, no wonder no blue Christmas lights are seen around here.

I would hate this, but I do have to say half the issue is manufacturers of the lights! We’ve got about 15 sets of lights between different Christmas trees, garlands, lights in windows etc and every time you turn them on they start off on the flashing mode, why on earth would the first mode not just be ‘on’
i feel like I spend half of December pressing the button to cycle through the settings. Maybe the neighbours can’t be arsed.

We've never had that problem, all
ours have always come back on with whatever they were last set to.

I love blue lights so frosty and pretty but hate flashing lights of any description. I also love the modern multi-coloured lights with blue in, so much nicer than the dull
colours I grew up with in the 70s and 80s and I'm not all that keen on warm white either, a bit boring.

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/12/2025 21:21

Opposite me have every fucking lit up Christmas ornament ever made in their garden. And multi coloured flashing lights everywhere. It's like living in Vegas. They've had them up since mid November!

Blue lights and especially blue flashing lights are awful. Why people why???

Anyahyacinth · 03/12/2025 21:32

Years ago neighbours had them here on a gazebo ..so not just Christmas...they are awful ...full commiserations OP ...they are so annoying AND ugly

birdtoast · 03/12/2025 21:34

My neighbour also has tasteless flashing blue lights but I'm not surprised she doesn't have a tasteful bone in her body, luckily I can't see them from inside my house I just have to see them every time I step outside.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 03/12/2025 21:38

I like blue lights (twinkling not flashing) but not ALL blue ... Maybe if 20% of the outside lights are blue it's OK...

As a pp said, they look icy and wintery. ❄

Booandbelle · 03/12/2025 21:40

I see your flashing blue lights and I raise you with the house in the next road who has hanging Icicle type lights in flashing red. It looks all kinds of odd!

Timebudda · 03/12/2025 21:43

I hate flashiing lights on anything it brings on my migraines.
Lucky for me i dont see any light outside my home.

YellowGuido · 03/12/2025 21:50

There is a gorgeous house near me that always has up beautiful blue and white lights. Those look stunning, but I agree they’re generally not great - especially when flashing, as it looks like an emergency situation outside your window!
My newish neighbour has got some awful rope lights up this year - very trashy looking and he keeps them on until the early hours - so intrusive!!

Daisy12Maisie · 03/12/2025 21:54

If someone told me my lights were getting on their nerves I would happily unplug them.
They don’t flash anyway. It’s just a led Christmas tree in my lounge window that I leave on until about 8:30 pm. It it was doing the neighbours heads in I would happily bin it! I’m just trying to be festive as we have just had a bereavement.
So it might be worth saying to your neighbours that the flashing is annoying and would they mind seeing if they can change the lights/ the setting.
Some people would be difficult but I like to think most people would just accommodate that.

I quite like blue lights, I imagine little imps dancing in a tree. Not sure if I'd choose that colour for Xmas though. I also don't like flashing, it's too overstimulating, especially if it's outside your house!

That’s how I feel about them… quite cute for about 10 seconds…

I hate flashing blue, I keep thinking emergency services are outside

Deadringer · 03/12/2025 22:11

A few years ago my husband came home with new, very expensive lights, I didn't realise they were blue flashing ones until he had put them up. Every year I hope they won't work but they always do, I have a feeling they will outlast me.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 04/12/2025 08:38

I could have written your post OP because our neighbours have gone for coloured lights that flash erratically and light up the whole street like a funfair. The flashing bothers me more than the colour as it makes me feel anxious and nauseous for some reason. I wish they'd tone it down.

Wildbushlady · 04/12/2025 08:40

The only truly tasteful lights are non flashing green and red.

CheeseIsMyIdol · 04/12/2025 08:50

JudgeBread · 03/12/2025 19:02

The blue ones are fucking awful. Like I'm sorry are we celebrating Christmas or looking for blood stains at a fecking crime scene?

🤣🤣🤣
Well said. I hate blue lights, too.

Across the street have blue & orange. Wtf?

Sartre · 04/12/2025 10:12

I have twinkling warm white ones in the window. They don’t flash but they do twinkle. I doubt they bother anyone. Agree regarding the ice white or blue ones, they give me a headache.

laughingnow · 04/12/2025 10:23

My neighbour takes garden decorations and lights very seriously. Not my choice exactly but cheerful and festive. I asked him to move the blue strobe which drenched my front room in a flashing pool of light. He obliged. Not really an issue. We didn’t discuss if he thought I was snobby!

surreygirly · 04/12/2025 10:24

Sweetiedarling7 · 03/12/2025 20:25

I think flashing lights are tacky and headache inducing. However a friend who lives within very close sight of my house has them so I’ve come to love hers every year because they are hers.
These lights are so bright it is like having a disco in my kitchen at night and I’m often tempted to put on a bit of Earth, Wind and Fire or Kool and the Gang.

I love the tacky part of Xmas LOL

Tulipvase · 04/12/2025 17:04

I think that used to be the case but certainly all the sets I’ve bought recently just stay static unless you cycle through the set.

Hate flashing lights of any colour.

This was meant to be to @Hollyjollynights

Terrytheweasel · 04/12/2025 18:05

Flashing and blue - the worst combo.

omg.. what joy 😂

Weeken · 04/12/2025 18:10

Surely they shouldn't be allowed. Blue flashing lights are supposed to indicate an emergency vehicle.

AnSionnachGlic · 04/12/2025 18:24

Every year I have warm white icicles ( static), warm white deer and tree. All very tasteful and calm, except my next door neighbour ties a double layer of blue, flashing rope lights all along our shared fence! I hate it but my kids think it's hilarious as they say it looks like they're ours, and I put them up in a moment of madness! My neighbour has no other lights, just layers of blue lights along our fence!
