Alcohol free mince pies

Looking for alcohol free mince pies as DH doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, and so that two year old GS can try them.
Any in supermarkets that fit the bill?

I won't say make your own from scratch , but could you buy ready made pastry and a jar of mincemeat ?

fishfingerbutty · 02/12/2025 13:35

Would prefer ready made ones if available.

Surely, in relation to your grandson, any alcoholic content is lost during the cooking process? On the basis that mince pies are sold as bakery items in the supermarket and not age restricted, I can't see that the alcohol content would be an issue? Different if it's sugar you're concerned about.

For your grandson hes fine to eat normal mince pies. My 5 year old has 1-2 a day she loves them. There's absolutely no reason why your GS can't have normal mince pies.....

SilenceInside · 02/12/2025 13:39

Most of the standard range from supermarkets won't have alcohol in. Usually it's the premium ranges that do.

And yes, for the grandson, there is essentially no alcohol in them so I wouldn't worry about that.

These don't - https://www.tesco.ie/groceries/en-IE/products/274308085?_gl=111p8ywe_upMQ.._gaMTUzMjc5OTQ3MC4xNzY0NjgyNTkz_ga_YVXWF6D2Q3*czE3NjQ2ODI1OTMkbzEkZzEkdDE3NjQ2ODI3MTYkajE4JGwwJGgxMzY1MDk0NDc.

It looks like a lot of the regular not 'luxury' ones don't contain alcohol.

As far as 2 year old is concerned, there’d be more alcohol in a ripe banana.

for DH - unless you specifically buy boozy ones, I bet he can’t tell if you don’t tell him

I assume most own brand cheapest versions will be alcohol free. The Waitrose ones are:

The ones from Morrisons or Sainsbury's bakery - in clear plastic boxes are the goat of mince pies. My ds loves them and they're alcohol free.

The amount of alcohol that is added to mincemeat is minuscule, and the inebriating effects are lost while cooking, it's just a bit of flavor that is added.

I make my own mincemeat from scratch every year.

Thank you everyone.
