Easy Christmas Eve dinner ideas (inc gluten free)

DP and I both work Christmas Eve and are not home until 5.30/6pm. We’ve usually had a Chinese takeaway but with two young DC that’s working less well anyway. This year we will have a relative who is gluten-free with us so takeaway is not an easy option.

So any ideas for tasty, easy, still-feels-special dinner that we can manage after work with small kids and at least partially gluten free?

Indian takeaway is the easiest for gluten free. Otherwise… something in the slow cooker? Pulled pork? You can get some fairly decent GF brioche now, we adapt this recipe: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/slow-cooker-pulled-pork

(I’ve actually done it without the cinnamon, treacle, onion marmalade, and fennel and it still tastes great. GF or cornflour to thicken)

Succulent pulled pork spiced with paprika and cinnamon is oh-so simple when you make it in the slow cooker. Serve with fennel and apple slices in bread rolls

Fish pie?

Make or partially make the day before. Thicken tbd sauce with cornflour, not a flour-based bechemel.
