Plouise advent calendar as a main Xmas gift?

Awcw1234 · 30/11/2025 14:26

Bought my DD the 12 day Plouise advent calendar as one of her main Xmas presents.

Is it really strange to gift it on Xmas day given the cost of the contents?

Nope.

I have got both my adult DD's a beauty advent calendar as one of their main presents (they were quite expensive) They will LOVE it!

Zhu · 30/11/2025 14:42

It is strange to me - isn’t the point of an advent calendar to enjoy opening it each day? I wouldn’t enjoy it as much, if it were me receiving it.

ZanyMaker · 30/11/2025 14:43

If you gift it on Christmas Day are you envisioning your granddaughter opening it over 12 days? If she is going to want to tear into all of it then it seems a waste of money and would likely be cheaper to buy the contents individually.

The alternative is to gift it tomorrow (or on the 12th) but say it counts as an actual Christmas present.

OhDear111 · 30/11/2025 14:46

Isn’t advent before Christmas? It seems odd to me!

stichguru · 30/11/2025 14:47

If the contents are cheaper bought as the advent calendar than they are bought in another way and you are going to open the calendar up, throw away the calendar bits and make up a gift box with the bits, it's fine. Actually giving her the advent calendar for Christmas is very odd.

Awcw1234 · 30/11/2025 14:54

My DD wants the advent calendar for the contents and also the box it comes in. However, it is £110. I would never buy her a £110 advent calendar. However, I’m happy to give it as a gift.

Nope. Not just you 😁

I would never have thought of getting one and gifting it as a present but my MIL got me one for my Birthday a few years back and I loved getting it. I thought it was great. My DD's were there when I got it and loved sitting with me watching me open the drawers and seeing what was behind each number.

That gave me the idea of getting them both a decent one for Christmas and, as expected, they LOVED it.

Some people will say its weird but it really isn't. The boxes they come in are gorgeous and mostly can be used again. What is the difference between buying all the items separately and sticking them in a box or gift bag and receiving them this way? Only this way its more fun opening the drawers 😄 (as well as being value for money for what you get!)

Each to their own. I had one gifted to me and I loved it. Loved opening the doors and getting the surprises and have reused the box. It sits on my dressing table and looks gorgeous.

But the boxes they come in are actually, for the most part, really gorgeous. Why throw the box away? Then go to the expense and faff of buying a different gift box and filling it with the bits? That to me would be more odd.

12 day calendars are designed to be given on Christmas Day! It’s a good present

God I would think not. The whole calendar would be opened, drawer by drawer, on Christmas day. Most advent calendars of this expense are not 'torn into' they are opened and can be re-used as they come in pretty boxes which can be kept and reused. And its not cheaper to buy the contents individually, its actually far more expensive. So definitely not a waste of money.

It will be a lovely gift. I get my adult DD's one and they love receiving it as a Xmas present. 😊

Yes, agreed. The 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas unlike the 24 days of Advent.

Extragreen · 30/11/2025 15:32

Surely give on the 12th?!

Extragreen · 30/11/2025 15:32

And get her a couple of pound choccie one from tomorrow

FastTurtle · 30/11/2025 17:24

My DS has bought me an advent calender as my Xmas present. I can’t wait to Christmas Day to open my 24 presents.

But they're not Advent calendars. Advent is the countdown to Christmas.

OhDear111 · 30/11/2025 19:11

Yes 12 days of Christmas is very different. Obviously after Christmas!

CombatBarbie · 30/11/2025 19:15

I buy my girls a make up one of their choosing every year, on the understanding it is part of their Christmas. This year they have gone with Look Fantastic and Pretty Little Thing ones.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 30/11/2025 19:16

It's very odd. It's an advent calendar, countdown to christmas. Give it to use as a calendar and less on Christmas day.

We do fancy calendars, in laws all do the liberty one. They're given on the 1st December.

Also are you sure she wants p.louise stuff? There's a lot of backlash against the brand currently, it's very cheap products for how much you pay. Much better calendars available at £120.

Wyntiry · 30/11/2025 19:17

Its a bit weird but my kids ask for weird presents every year, so just do it if it is what they want!

CharlotteCChapel · 30/11/2025 19:41

Aren't the 12 day adventd meant to be opened on each of the 12 days of Christmas, so day one is the first opened.

Yes I know advent is the period before Christmas but I've seen Halloween advent calendars before now.

Yes. She had asked specifically for this set. I wouldn’t have bought it otherwise 😂

Can you return it and buy her some proper makeup. Plouise is temu tat and not worth the money lol. But to answer your question, i know lots of people get Advent calendars as gifts for the day so its fine. Just really would reconsider it as it's awful quality

Appreciate the comment but unfortunately, my DD really wants this brand like all of her friends. She is 12 years old and just wants to fit in! I managed to get it for £75 during Black Friday so thankfully I didn’t pay £110. The set I’ve bought is mainly skincare and lip glosses.

Wish I never mentioned it was a Plouise one now 🤣🤣🤣
