Crackers-which types have you had the most fun with?

I can't decide which to buy parents hose but I always provide them.

I've been looking at lakeland's selection, quite like the look of the balance board ones and they're currently on offer.

Has anyone ever found any fab ones they'd care to share?

In the past I've had some that had a 'snakes and ladders' type game, lots of variations on racing games, a trivia type one that everyone lost interest in quite quickly....

We had escape room ones last year, which we all enjoyed.

I’m definitely not buying crackers this Christmas. They are such a waste of money, and I’m truly not a grinch. So bad for the environment too.

Years ago we had flute crackers, they all came in a particular colour/tune and had basic colour coded music sheets inside so we could play Xmas songs around the table. It was hilarious. Think they were Lakeland x

Slothey · 29/11/2025 17:24

Similar to the flue ones, we’ve had ones with handbells and the music to go with them. We’re all fairly musical and have made good use of them!

UnimaginableWindBird · 29/11/2025 17:26

We had a similar musical glockenspiel one. I now reinsert these into stuff your own crackers each year along with a small chocolate.

Apologies for not coming back until now! Some great ideas, thank you. I am buying two lots-one for xmas at my friends who doesn't have family (we have a 'faux xmas a couple of weeks before!) and one for family. I love the idea of the escape room ones.
I take the point about environmental factors. I liked having silent ones last year at my work party. But, I don't eat meat or dairy, never fly, live quite simply, a lot of second hand goods. I think I can afford myself a small sin once a year.

Crackers are vastly much less harmful to the environment than meat, dairy and fossil fuel burning. Complete non-issue!!

I do prefer to get plastic free ones because I hate litter but love cardboard that can go in my compost heap 😁 but it's a small thing in the scheme of things.

I have bought taskmaster crackers this year. I have high hopes for them (and I'm usually a cracker Grinch so we will see)

Stompythedinosaur · 02/12/2025 17:30

We had ones with magic tricks in them one year, that went down very well!

whynot90 · 02/12/2025 18:02

About 10 years ago we bought ones which had little individual xylophone type keys and a “music sheet” in each cracker. Every year they come out again as we try to perfect the eight Christmas tunes - great fun as we are complete crap at it … still!!

elevenpiperspiping · 02/12/2025 18:31

The ones with the handbells. We still have them about 5 years later!

Exceptionalice · 02/12/2025 18:34

I’m DIY’ing some this year - they’ll include:
scratch card
long balloon (the balloon animal type ones)
little picture of a balloon animal they need to try and recreate.
I feel like this is a bit of fun at the table and doesn’t end with a tacky bit of tat to shove in a drawer at home and never use

Linenpickle · 02/12/2025 18:37

I make my own too… much better!

Cornflakegirl7 · 03/12/2025 10:29

I wouldn't know where to start making my own! And I think my family wouldn't appreciate it to be honest. Sad

@deplorabelle exactly how I feel. It's a small (tiny) thing once a year. I can be at peace with myself with crackers.

Sounds boring but the biggest hit here was sock ones, both adults and kids alike oddly

Namechangedasouting987 · 03/12/2025 13:13

I make my own with Hobbycraft ones, they come with hat and jokes, tube, banger etc and I add chocolates and put a couple of lines from 12 Days of Christmas in each one.
Then between turkey and pud we sing the carol with everyone just singing their own lines. Its hysterical. I always give '5 Gold Rings' to the people most likely to ham it up.
I double every line up, so no one has to sing alone. My Bro plays it on the piano, but you could use spotify etc.
