Christmas toys for baby (awwww)

My niece has a little 6 month old girl - I’m getting my Christmas gifts now so I can get them posted out (to America). I am going to send a Beatrix Potted piggy bank (with some money in it - or is that naff these days?)

I’ve already sent a box of clothes and baby books (Paddington, Winnie the Pooh etc) and money, and wanted to get her a little toy for Christmas (have sent her a Paddington bear already - of course!).

I’m looking for suggestions for a 6-12 month old (fun but educational - granny is a teacher!) but not too heavy as I have a lot to send and postage is £££!

Do you want specifically quite English nostalgic things? A toy red bus and some Ahlberg books? The piggybank is cute if they have plenty of space but might be too young for it if drowning in baby clutter

I think the piggy banks are cute a lovely memento from faraway aunty.

Tomy hide and squeak eggs

Call me overprotective but I wouldn’t want anything with coins in it around a baby of that age, they are stupid and may swallow it. Cute idea though! Maybe a note in it. Cute outfit in next size always welcome. Mine honestly wasn’t much bothered about toys at 6 months. Try a stacker maybe.

Was hoping something maybe they can’t get easily in America - maybe something London/Uk/scottish?

Why not a Peter or Flopsy bunny to go with the theme? Or the books?

JG24 · 29/11/2025 21:14

There's a gorgeous wooden red London bus from Jacques of London which would be great for next Christmas when she's a bit older

tangobravo · 29/11/2025 21:22

I would get the ocean stacker in a bag toy, on Amazon. It's gorgeous, small, a nice introduction to animals and mine used it from 6m - 3ish years!

I would get the piggy bank. I think it’s a lovely idea. And a proper Peter Rabbit book to go with it perhaps.

mondaytosunday · 29/11/2025 21:31

All that for one baby? I’d say you’ve got enough! Frankly I’d get on Amazon.com and get her sent something direct off of that. They’ll gift wrap too.

I have a lot to send over for all the various family members. Her grandma probably won’t be around next Christmas so we are all going all out this year.
