Thread 12 - The one where it's All Pants (and socks)

1000 replies

RainbowZebraWarrior · 25/11/2025 20:27

Levi's pants and socks, that is. It's also exactly a month until Christmas!

Also, I have to thank @FortnumsWeddingBreakfastTeaPlease for this quote, as it really tickled me: "Well it's not going to be the one where we found the fucking flamingo.
Honestly I'm starting to despise the stupid, elusive, constipated thing." Sadly, it was too long to make the thread title.

Hello folks and welcome to the ongoing Christmas Bargain threads, which are hosted annually by the Amazing Reastie. I'm just caretaking for now.

This post is a work in progress, and if you have any links you’d like to share or you think would be good to add, then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas, and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links, please.

Please post any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of MN filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

As we move towards actual Black Friday (does that even exist any more?) the threads tend to move very quickly. It can be helpful to post your bargain in bold. This can be done by adding an asterxix either side of a word with no gap in between. So Levi's would be Levi's

@doistayordoigo I am also looking for ear pods and am so confused! Ds is an audiophile and keeps talking about reference sound. He's never had wireless ear phones and I'd like him to try some for convenience. But don't want to spend a fortune as he may not get on with them. Would also appreciate advice. All his tech is Apple (laptop, phone etc) but I am not sure they will be what he's after, but don't want to spend more than that.

Not sure what your budget is but if he would definitely appreciate some from Audio Technica. My DH is a DJ/music producer and begrudgingly bought me some Apple AirPods (which I love because I don’t care about that sort of thing really) but all of his headphones and lots of other equipment are Audio Technica. You can pick up a pair of wireless earbuds for under £90.

TeenWhisperer · 27/11/2025 17:07

Thanks for all the earbuds recommendations. Ds is very keen on having a true reference sound (I think it's an audiophile thing). I'm swithering between just buying one of these £20 pairs for him to test run (see if he likes using them) or trying to find him one he'll like. Bose Quiet Comfort seemed to be great, but there's evidence of issues switching between devices and that doesn't sound great.

Just got a £15 off a £50 spend on the Vodafone spin to win, it’s a code if anyone would like it

Thank you! I will check these out.

Also just to add, he’s probably not going to find the kind of audio quality he longs for with a pair of wireless earbuds. But I would think he already knows this if he’s into that sort of thing! I’m assuming he already has a decent pair of proper headphones?

whereareyousleep · 27/11/2025 17:13

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but the entertainer are doing buy 2 get 1 free on all toys. Might be useful to someone

I am learning that! He doesn't have any earbuds. He has wired etymotic earphones. They are quite delicate though, so he no longer wears them out and about and is wearing big headphones instead. I just wanted him to have some small earbuds in a rechargeable case for convenience! But maybe that's just not a thing.

What are people getting for the 18 year old males in their lives? One of my brothers turns 18 at the beginning of December and neither myself or parents can think of what to get him.

There's nothing he "needs", doesn't drink, isn't interested in experiences, has all the tech etc.. Any and all ideas gratefully received, especially if bargainous.

Maybe a decent watch ? Or would he wear a chain ?

Moltenpink · 27/11/2025 17:17

I was really impressed with the Hismile electric toothbrushes, they come in a nice box and look like a substantial gift. Thanks to the PP posting the riddle answer.

My mystery pastes were watermelon, strawberry chupa chups and cola. Letters (not sure which is which) were Q, P & W.

I have a request for recommendations please. DB has asked for a book or books on mythology - for adults rather than kids, but for interest rather than academic.

Ideally Celtic, Egyptian or Aztec!

Hiya, have you looked on PostScript?
https://www.psbooks.co.uk/non-fiction/categories/folklore-mythology

They've got a mix, including Celtic, and some less common stuff too.

I can't work out how to get the £5 off Pintail Candles either. I've posted my referral link on the referrals thread in case that does the trick.

StrawberryThief1930 · 27/11/2025 18:07

thanks for the Uno No Mercy Amazon link, we already have it but its perfect for nephew!

fishfingersandchipsagain · 27/11/2025 18:24

Thank you so much @Stowickthevast @Arregaithel @ihavespoken @Dormouse1940 there are dome great options there! I’m working my way through them.

doistayordoigo · 27/11/2025 18:28

Thanks for the earpod suggestions, I'll have a think about which would suit DH best

Fitness-mad DS wanted a weights bench and weights for Christmas and I found this starter set which seems to be good quality and much cheaper than equivalents. They have lots of other fitness equipment in their Black Friday sale, so well worth a look. https://yorkfitness.com/products/york-fitness-warrior-2in1-ultimate-starter-bench-20kg-dumbbells-bundle

Amazing thank you!!

@AndSoFinally why do they never wear a coat?!

Thanks for all the suggestions; unfortunately a lot of them are things he already has but I like the idea of a really nice toiletry hamper of bits he'd never buy himself.

Also thinking of some stuff he could take to America when he travels next summer but coming up empty.

Thanks everyone though!

You could make him up a travel hamper?
some toiletries as they seem to be more expensive over there. Include suntan lotion!

plug converters/USA usb plugs
packing cubes
if he’s backpacking/staying in hostels then a padlock for lockers/long padlock thing to keep his bag safe on long train journeys.
yeti water bottle
$$$
backpack/suitcase/orher travel bag
power bank/solar power bank
AirTags for luggage (so he knows they are on the same plane and if not can track them!)
waterproof pouch for phone (if likely to be doing water sports)

just trying to think what I got my dc for their American adventures!

nothingtoseehereatall · 27/11/2025 18:58

Oh thank you for Uno - my DD loves that game, nice to have a spin on it for a stocking.

And just to add what someone said earlier (and because I may have had a G&T or two, after finishing off a big work project) - these threads really are lovely. You are all ace ;)

hby9628 · 27/11/2025 19:15

My 11yo has asked for a grabber machine. Any recommendations. I think this has been asked before and someone mentioned Lidl but I can’t see anything online. Apologies for repeating a question. I sort of don’t want to buy her one because I think it will be fun for about an hour then get stuffed in a cupboard.

The lidl one was in the christmas catalogue, it says it's available from 11th December but there's no other details

The powerbank from earlier in the thread is back down to £6.11 with voucher on Amazon

watchuswreckthemic · 27/11/2025 19:44

I’m hoping to try and finish my shopping tonight so I might be active!
this is the cheapest I’ve seen it- Byers house funko pop for £13 for any stranger things fans (my daughter was watching season 5 at 630am this morning)

For anyone interested, here’s how the baked bean advent calendar has turned out 😆Decided against the pain of carving 24 doors out so have just numbered the tins and made a single door instead! Reckon it was about £8.50 all in

Thanks @HalfasleepChrisintheMorning and @mumonthehill he’s read Mythos and didn’t like it - plus from what I remember I think it was Greek.

@sillygoof the DK one might work, but I think he’s looking for something more in depth.

Thames and Hudson have a whole series on Mythology - I enjoyed the Celtic one https://www.thamesandhudson.com/collections/myths

They look nice together too.

On Greek myths (I know he isn't keen) the standard work is Robert Graves Greek Myths - you can pick up Folio Society versions secondhand which look lovely and the text is very thorough.

Myths

Packed with intriguing facts and diverting stories, these authoritative yet accessible guides are the ideal introduction to the myths and tales that lie at the heart of cultures around the world.
