Wildlife camera help! No phone

I’m looking to find a wildlife camera for my elderly dad with NO phone. So perhaps an indoor screen and an outdoor camera. He will not accept a smart phone. Ever.

Has anyone seen something like this? Almost like a video walk ie talkie live

Will he accept a tablet - it's just a screen? Sorry can't help.

What do you mean by wildlife camera? What will he be shooting?

pteromum · 22/11/2025 20:24

No. Sadly.

hes very elderly and vulnerable. But keeps mentioning he would love to watch the baby birds and garden animals.

I’m wondering if there was a concept with a camera outside and a small basic not tablet but screen inside.

now that I think about it one camera multiple basic screens would be great for care homes.

The garden and inside his bird boxes.

@Trolleysaregoodforemploymentnot taking photos, just watching garden at night and day i suppose. Would a ring doorbell type camera do this? Yet again, that needs a phone

If you search gardeners world there are some wildlife cameras for still and video for watching from the comfort of your home. Some look reasonably priced.

A h. Had a look. All need smart phone.

I have in my head like a digital photo frame maybe. That links to the camera.

perhaps I’m heading to dragons den. 😂

How about an Amazon echo show? You can watch camera footage on the screen.

candycanetime · 22/11/2025 20:57

Link it with blink cameras.

Shall investigate.

I’ve found this

but need to blow budget for that. Wondering about an old TV and this camera.

Lots of baby monitors have wireless screens as part of the package but the camera bit generally needs a power source.

A basic tablet will work in place of a phone. It's also larger and will be easier to use.

I know. but he really panics about them. Does manage digital photo frame.

I wonder if I could set it so he doesn’t know. it would need to literally show one screen.

you could hide all the apps in one folder so that only the camera feed is available + a 'do not touch folder'. You might be able to set up voice commands so that he can use those to operate the tablet.

We've had trail cameras but they were tricky to get the pictures.
I use a blink camera now. It records to a memory stick so I wonder whether you could put the memory stick into a digital photo frame? Or maybe download them onto a tablet to view? He wouldn't be watching the animals live because you'd have to do that for him but it would still be his own garden he could see.

Does he have a laptop?

I have two trail cameras that record on to SD cards which I can then plug in to the laptop to view pictures and films
