So my dd is in Sydney and I want to get her a selection of presents to open on Christmas day. I've discovered that I can create an account on Australian Amazon and I know about M&S and John Lewis (and Asos I think) that deliver there. Which Australian companies would have nice things for her? I would normally buy her a selection of makeup (probably Charlotte Tilbury), clothing, books, diaries etc.

She's having an amazing time, but is feeling sad she won't be home for Christmas!

(she will hopefully give me a list at some stage so I won't be completely in the dark, but she told me that she loves the things that I always buy randomly - no pressure there!)

Mecca is really good for make up. Bonds is great for undies, socks, singles, comfy wear. Koko black for chocolate, there will be good bookshops you can find online near her. Voucher for coffee at a cafe she likes, massage or treatment. I got my son a paella pan and the non perishable ingredients for a paella.

Hello,

we live in sydney 🙂 I’m pretty sure John Lewis stopped delivering here and m&s also stopped (although it may be back now so might be worth checking). Amazon au is good or the iconic.

makeup wise Sephora or Mecca websites would probably good or our department store alternatives to JL David Jones or Myer. I’m a big fan of Aesop for skin care / body wash if you wanted to look there too!

I still miss certain snacks and things from home so if you know what she might miss and can send it across that may go down well too!

Check M and S Australia.

Jemma8 · 21/11/2025 07:24

Mecca or Sephora for make up.
haighs for chocolate
David jones / Myer are the two big department stores

HelenHywater · 21/11/2025 08:05

thank you all that's really helpful -pity about John Lewis but I had a quick look at David Jones which looks good.

I am intending to send her a box to open as well - including some of her favourite snacks.

Am I right in thinking you can't send alcohol? (probably wouldn't do that anyway risk of breakage...).

You can't send spirits over 70% and any alcohol sent is taxed upon arrival from what i can work out (so if they don't pay the tax they don't get the parcel)

I will say if you are sending stuff over the postage costs are ridiculous. I sent a small parcel to my sister the other day (not heavy either) and it was almost £20 to send so bear that in mind as well

Royal Mail have a list on their website about what you can and cannot sent from the UK to Australia but if you use a different courier it may vary slightly

I would also recommend David Jones.

Do be careful about sending food to Australia. Australia has very strict rules on that.

Target is another Australian department store I’ve used (Nb, also available in America - I’ve tried to order from the wrong one in the past).

Also, I’ve brought directly from Amazon Australia before.

No, you can't send alcohol but you could get her a voucher to this liquor shop https://www.danmurphys.com.au/dm/home
Its one of the biggest alcohol shops and stocks alot of British drinks. When we lived there though, DH informed me that the bitters didn't taste the same.

You can send certain foods that are commercially packaged, but you must declare it on the customs declaration form. DH's mum sent him a Christmas pudding from Harrods once which felt very luxurious. (not somewhere we'd ever shop 😂)

You could also arrange a hamper/package from this company based in Aus https://www.britishsweets.com.au/

If she is into Scottish food/meat, this butcher delivers all over Sydney davidslarder.com.au/

Peter Alexander for Pjs, T2 for fancy teas, and another vote for Haighs Chocolate (the peppermint frogs are the best, closely followed by the speckles!!)

NewbieSM · 21/11/2025 23:20

Op I work for David Jones and there are so many options for gifts, nice pjs, makeup, perfume or accessories, we also go gift wrapping as well. Mecca is also a good idea again with a gift wrapping option, no woman is disappointed to see a Mecca bag under the tree

I love this jewellery but it is a specific taste so may not be suitable: https://hausofdizzy.com/
