Wireless meat thermometers and other gadgets

Dh likes cooking, barbecuing, gadgets and apps, so I thought this might be a good Christmas present, Has anybody got this or a similar one? Is it just a gimmick or is it actually useful?

What are you getting your DH’s? Any ideas would be appreciated.

A hundred quid?!

I've never seen a wired meat thermometer so I don't see how wireless is a selling point. I think mine cost less than a tenner. Am I missing something?

What about a pizza oven? I was sceptical but it’s been really good. We sometimes take it on camping trips (likes a holiday 😉)

But has it got an app? 😀. I know, it’s a ridiculous amount of money, but I think he would like it. I’ll see if there’s any feedback before purchasing.

He uses the egg (aldi not big green egg) bbq to cook pizzas, but good suggestion. Thanks

I don't have a meater but I have heard positive reviews, I plan on getting one but holding out for black Friday. We do a lot of smoking so we leave meat in for hours and it will be handy to track on my phone instead of checking it and opening the egg letting heat out.

I bought a leather apron a couple of years ago which went down well. (Dick strawbridge wore the same one on escape to the chateau)
I also plan on booking us on a BBQ cooking day, my OH doesn't like doing things alone and we're so rubbish with cook books, have lots, rarely look at them!

My husband has a similar one and really rates it. He’s a big bbq and slow cooked meat fan and finds it really useful. Especially the app telling him how long it needs to cook.

HDready · 15/11/2025 15:30

The benefit with wireless is that you leave it in the meat in the bbq and can check the temperature on your phone without opening it. We have a thermopro one which was about half the price of meator.

If he does pulled pork or similar, some meat shredding claws are a good inexpensive gift.

This is all very encouraging. Thanks for the feedback and a leather apron is a great idea.

Look like more hassle than a regular meat thermometer.

Allthings · 15/11/2025 15:35

My husband uses a wired one all the time. I am not sure he would appreciate a wireless one as his current one meets his needs.

Justforchristmas · 15/11/2025 15:37

I would highly recommend the thermometer, especially if your husband is into smoking meat etc.

@DeafLeppard soooo many lovely items.

I have one and it’s fabulous! Go for it 🎁

haggisaggis · 15/11/2025 15:42

My adult dc got me one for Christmas but after it told me a chicken was cooked after 15 minutes in the oven I stopped using it!

Nigellastwinklylights · 15/11/2025 15:43

@haggisaggis what make was it? One to stay clear of.

i gave my DH one of those in desperation a couple of years ago. Once he got the hang of it, he loves it . Uses it on the barbecue, the oven and the air fryer.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 15/11/2025 16:15

Gave my DH a meater a few years ago after it was recommended on here. He loves it and it gets used every time we have a joint, especially good at Christmas. It is always spot on with the cooking times and we’d probably be lost without it now.
