Amazon is just filled with Temu tat now?

I usually find some good bargains on Amazon, but recently it just seems to be filled with expensive Temu tat or things from china.

Am I missing something or searching incorrectly or is it really not up to much these days?

No you're not missing something, it's very much like that. Unless you know what you want to buy including the brand, most of it is rubbish.

CosySeason · 09/11/2025 15:38

Most shops are the same.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 09/11/2025 15:38

Yeah its not trustworthy anymore 😕

Tiebiter · 09/11/2025 15:39

You are correct. It's just rubbish plastic tat that breaks immediately. I'm avoiding it this year. We are getting most of our shopping from world of books.

Even then you get fakes or very poor customer service if anything goes wrong.

Thank you, pleased it's not just me! I've made a pact with myself not to order anything from them this Christmas. I haven't heard of world of books, I'll give it a whirl. Thank you!

Online multi sellers are all filled with tat, even searching brings up the tat sellers first. I've got companies I trust, trying to buy local, or relatively so and really not interested in data hungry, crap merchants, who are trying to wipe out competition.

MissingTrees · 09/11/2025 15:44

I still buy some stuff from Amazon but with some items you have to filter it carefully. If I get an Amazon page full of Chinese tat I google the item I want and check for the brands I've heard of, then redo the Amazon search with the brand name.

Office365Error · 09/11/2025 15:45

So are b&q and Wayfair. Very dissapointing

AutumnClouds · 09/11/2025 15:45

Yeah it’s becoming unusable. Planning on cancelling Prime but currently reliant on some subscriptions so need to work out an alternative first

LlamaNoDrama · 09/11/2025 15:47

It's going the same eBay went. I've often dodged Amazon and bought elsewhere this last year because I can't be sure what I'm getting and dont want dangerous Chinese tat.

GingerPaste · 09/11/2025 15:49

Yeah, Amazon is almost completely flooded with Chinese stuff now (although they seem to have cracked down somewhat on the fake reviews).

I always check that an item has FREE RETURNS before buying now.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/11/2025 15:52

Yep, I gave up my prime account earlier this year as I was finding it increasingly rubbish, so I'd rather at least try to support my high street and see what I'm buying.
I loved Amazon in the very early days when it was a bookshop that gave you reading recommendations, it was genuinely useful and great value. It's now just another online market place of crap.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 09/11/2025 15:52

I still find them pretty good but I tend to use them when I know what I want and if I’m looking for, say, Havianas, I’d only buy from Amazon itself or the Haviana store. I’d say 90% of what I buy is from Amazon rather than 3rd party.

80smonster · 09/11/2025 15:57

It always was.

FofB · 09/11/2025 16:18

Totally agree. I am a member of a facebook group which exclusively promotes business/items only made in this country. It's harder work to find what you like/buy but I've got much better quality gifts and it's from real, small companies who need support.
It means I've hardly used Amazon at all this year.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 09/11/2025 17:00

It’s been like that for awhile now. I only buy recognisable brands from there that are also available from other shops.

Ugh. World of Books with unethical work practices. Fired my son (17), because he couldn’t come into work on the day his dad died. I’d rather buy Chinese crap tbh.

BestZebbie · 09/11/2025 17:31

In particular they seem to have invented "Amazon Haul" which is just a Temu knock-off/reshipper.
