I always recommend Aachen in Germany. It’s gorgeous there, plus it’s a natural spa town so the spa baths are amazing. We’ve been a couple of times now. Very easy to get to, it’s the nearest German market to the uk, you can drive or the Eurostar goes there as well.

Loved Vienna and Munich. Going to Lublijana this December with a trip to Lake Bled.

Budapest. Beautifully decorated for christmas and they have an amazing decorated christmas tram. Also has thermal baths and lots to see there.

Bruges, handy on the Eurostar. Also Antwerp and Ghent.

Also depends where you live and whether you can get a direct flight to these places.

Bit of a wildcard but although I've been to Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent, I'd be happiest in Rouen, France. It's probably smaller than some of the others but easy to get to from the UK and the rest of Rouen is fabulous - historic, charming, 17 free museums, Monet's Cathedral, the Abbaye, the Jeanne D'Arc church, etc.

Also, you can cruise up the Seine to get there, with a company I've mentioned on another thread. If I mention it on this, peeps will think I'm a PR troll.

Trier, Germany and Luxemburg City, Luxemburg both have great markets and are 45 mins by car, or 50 mins by public transport, from each other. It's cheap to go between the 2 and if you want to explore Luxemburg, public transport is totally free!

Beautiful Colmar on the French/German border of Alsace in France has a stunning Christmas market; actually there are 5 Christmas markets, including one for children.
