I’ve cried. I wasn’t sure where it was going. I am not sure it’s Christmas but it did make me cry.

I love it! I cried too. As a 56 year old woman, married for 27 years & who still loves her husband! Not everyone has perfect kids, not everyone has a perfect Xmas! I have watched my Son & Husband, fall out, row & not get on! That is me putting a spin on it. It’s really really tough! We nearly lost our teenage son a few times, but he is doing well now. This advert resonates with me, so well done John Lewis 🙂 🌲
And, it’s a banging tune!!! 💃

I liked it and thought it was moving. It reminded me of their last year’s ad with the two sisters, so I had to go and watch that one afterwards.

Obviously it’s not as good as the one with the penguin, but nothing will ever be as good as the one with the penguin, so fair enough.

I absolutely loved it. Awkward son buying his dad what turned out to be a perfect gift and dad seeing his baby boy again. Aww. Bring on the Christmas adverts.

We discussed this on aibu this morning and the general feeling was that every one was tense and walking on eggshells waiting to see what dad thought of his present. I didn't like it.

Wait, what’s all this talk of hares and penguins? Surely the little boy waiting for Christmas is the best JL Christmas advert? The acting is wonderful in it. I can’t believe it was released in 2011; where does the time go?!

The new advert… I understand the sentiment and I quite like it, but they could have done so much more with it.

great family through the ages. I have teens & often catch my breath as I realise these are the same people who were my babies, toddlers etc. I see the change in them, as my own life & personal changes become a bit of a blur.

the sisters looks etc seem to indicate there is something going on between the dad & boy.

what dies it have to do with Christmas or John Lewis?

They are telling a story about gifts. Words can’t always express affection. The underlaying story is that children are the biggest gift but the gift needs a lot of ‘’you’, before you see the true beauty of the gift.

The son bought his Dad his favourite tune, it's takes him back through his life. It's father/son bonding. The son is probably at that age where telling his Dad he loves him isn't something he does so he does the next best thing buys him a gift that has meaning to him.

Sometimes words can't be or aren't said but giving someone you love something special says what you can't say.

I hear certain tracks and am taken back through my life it's the power of music.

A kid buys his dad an album from a while ago, which reminds him of dancing when he was younger. That’s it.
What’s there to get excited about?

I was completely underwhelmed.

I loved the one with the gentleman snowman who went to John Lewis to get Mrs Snowman a nice red scarf.
