How old?

I recommend Percy Jackson to my year 7s. Amazing retelling of greek myths, they love it.

My Wimpy Kid loving DS says the 13 Storey Treehouse books are just as good - they're both the first ones he looks for when we go to the library. He's also currently enjoying My Cousin Is A Time Traveller by David Solomons which he says is just as silly. It's the first one of the series that he's read so I'll have to wait to see if he's drawn to pick up the others.

Percy Jackson are great books generally, but an odd choice if you’re wanting something along the lines of diary of a wimpy kid!
Tom Gates and Dork Diaries come to mind.
