Both her birthday and Xmas are coming up (she’s turning six) and she is not forthcoming with present ideas 😫 she is well into Gabby’s Dollhouse with the movie coming out, but she already has the celebration house and I don’t think the new one is that great. I’ve bought some new bits but nothing wow.
what’s everyone getting their six year old girls?

This is for a 5 year old: barbie things, a toy Frozen head of hair that she can brush, some kids jewellery, disney princess dress and shoes, cuddly toy... I'm not getting a main present really, I'm doing more middle presents instead. I think my 6 year old boy would love a camera so I'm looking at that for him.

RomeoRivers · 23/10/2025 18:51

Princess dresses
sparkly shoes
kids’ jewellery
tonies
craft stuff
birthday + Xmas outfits
pyjamas
slippers
light up play dressing table

We’ve never had a tonie - is it just a story that gets read out to them?

I love the walkietalkie idea - I think that could be really popular actually - do you have any links for ones that are good?

OP posts:
Nineandahalf · 23/10/2025 19:13

Personally think a yoto is better than Tonie for older ones - we have both
My six year old is not into dolls etc, which is annoying.
She likes surprise egg toys with cuddly toys in. Anything hello kitty.
I'm going to get her an Instax mini.
All her friends want the Garmin junior watch so I think she will ask for that.
And the bitzee hamster toy (she has a bitzee already which she likes )

zaffa · 23/10/2025 19:17

Can you explain the hamster toy? Is it just a ball with a virtual hamster?

look at the Yoto as well as the tonie box and compare the features to see which one would suit your family. Disney fans I think would prefer the tonie but mine prefer the Yoto story options, the fact you can Bluetooth audible to it, plus play the stories you own through the app of you misplace them or want to play in the car.

flower garden building toy
lego 3 in 1 sets
k’nex
colouring /craft stuff
sticker painting books

My 6yo wants a camera that prints photos (the thermal paper ones rather than Polaroid) and a new scooter.

Do you have a camera suggestion? Is it special paper that goes in?

My 6 year old is also a Gabby fan; we’ve put this Polly Pocket version on her list: https://amzn.eu/d/djndeLv

There’s also some Gabby Lego stuff around too.

Last year we also got her a cuddly Kitty Fairy which she loves! We also got a few board games as she got into those, and various art bits. Sylvanian families stuff too.

This year she’s asked for some LOL dolls bits, MORE cuddlies for her never ending collection, some book sets she’s into (Worst Witch and Rainbow Magic sets). She’s also very keen on getting a Build a Bear and outfit, so am going to get a gift card to give and take her out after for that. She also has a birthday (7th) near Xmas so it’s full on!

Apart from Gabby’s Dollhouse, what else is she into/likes to do?

Thanks - our daughters sound very similar! She also loves Polly pocket and I’ve suggested the house to my mum as a gift. She loves sylvanians, has quite a few sets mostly around nurseries and schools and fairgrounds. That is an option.
she loves tigers, PIL are getting a playmobil jungle set which I think will be a hit.
I think maybe there won’t be one ‘wow’ present this year but it will be add ons to stuff she already has.
when did your daughter start reading the worst witch? Do you read it to her or does she read it?
I’ve just bought her a new bike at the start of school - I know it’s a bit tricky with birthday and Xmas coming up but I wanted her to get the use out of it before it was too dark and cold.

She sounds very similar! We also had a big cat/tiger phase; some cute tiger/cheetah pjs were a big hit last year! Little cat necklace, cat helmet, cat hoodie. With the double birthday/xmas I try to buy other bits and not just toys as gets overwhelming!

She’s currently still not interested in a ‘main’ pressie and will enjoy a £10 toy as much as a £40 item so we don’t worry about that; sure it will come later. A Sylvanian families pony styling salon was probably the ‘biggest’ purchase last year.

She’s an ok reader but would take her forever to read a chapter book so they’re for us to read to her at bedtime. She loves magic and also animal books; the Zoeys Rescue Zoo series are lovely as an earlyish chapter book with an animal theme (there’s a tiger one!).

just looking back at my Amazon orders and this Mamas Surprise was a big hit last year too: https://amzn.eu/d/450b5PQ and also the cuddly cat filled with babies https://amzn.eu/d/4vgUsTg 🤣

We also got her a kids Echo Dot in the Black Friday sale which she likes to ask questions and play music from.

Hope that helps. Think they love anything at this age to be honest!!

Jamesblonde2 · 23/10/2025 20:29

Bike or scooter.

Raggeo · 23/10/2025 20:31

She wants one that's like this...
https://amzn.eu/d/8G6QPY9
A friend has one and they spend ages playing with it and printing loads of photo
The photos are just black and white and not the best quality but it's the printing that they are interested in and want to print every photo so I'd be bankrupt if she got a proper instant camera.

@Donm999 these are all brilliant suggestions! That cat is genius I think she would love it. She adores her many many babies, this is a bit of a different take and it has a mummy cat too! Definitely ordering her one.
I loved the worst witch as a child and can’t wait to start reading it to her - I might give it a go actually and see how we get on but I will look up the other suggestions for books you’ve made.
it’s tricky with birthday and Xmas so close together - it’s a lot of presents and festivities in one hit!
thanks for the suggestions, I think these are genius!

Yes, but you can get all kinds; some are stories, some are songs, some are specifically for sleep. We’ve just ordered the number blocks and alpha blocks ones which are educational. I highly recommend them.

RessicaJabbit · 23/10/2025 20:51

Tonie Boxes and Yotos are basically identical in function..

Tonies you out figurines op top.
Yoto uses credit card style RFID cards.

Yoto has a mini version for out and about,

Yoto arguably has more longevity as kids might outgrow the figurines, but cards not so much.
Also, storing cards is much easier than figurines.

Tonies is easier to control by the kids when younger, but at six this isn't an issue I shouldn't think.

Tonies figurines are more expensive than Yoto around £15, maybe more.

I know you can also use the yoto app on your phone to play the cards, uploaded content, podcasts etc you can also control the Yoto from your phone. Including things like remotely setting the volume etc.

(I don't know if Tonies does this, it may well do)

We live our Yoto, but they're both great choices!

Disneyland2022 · 23/10/2025 21:32

im in the same boat. I’ve got her a Lego friends campervan as her main.

she just received the Polly pocket suitcase for her birthday & that’s incredible!
She loves those surprise toys so she loved a hatchimal. They are in Tesco £20 from £40.

im thinking for Christmas; a bitzee, gymnastic bars , horrid Henry books!

MrsFinchleysFlan · 23/10/2025 21:35

We have a Toniebox and really like it! I find that it's really easy for my kids to manage themselves and the figures magnetise onto the top so they can carry it around without the story stopping. Current big favourites are audiobooks from Adam Kay (Marvellous Medicine, and Incredible Inventions). There can be a big difference in the length of the content but I guess that reflects the age range too. The Adam Kay books are more than 5 hours long! Other great Tonies for this age are the National Geographic ones. We have space, penguins and whales and they're formatted really nicely.

You can also get creative tonies where you can add your own content. I like that you can limit the volume with the app. There's also a new version out at the moment I think which might have more features.

And thanks for the Polly Pocket Gabby suggestion from above! Ordered that for my nearly 6 year old 😁

Yeah see i would never buy something like a bike when its not birthday or christmas. DS bike is too small but he'll be waiting for his birthday for new.

Dd was 6 in august. She reads constantly so is having a kindle. Her grandparents are getting her roller skates and my sister wants to get her a board game shes recommended. Her brother wants to get her various stuff.

We love our tonie box at our house. It is stories and songs but you can get creative tonies that you can record or upload your own stories to.

My little boy enjoys repainting the creative tonies too to make them his own.

I also uploaded my favourite video game soundtrack to one, he doesn't know it's a video game soundtrack, he thinks we're just listening to music.

The tonies make great imaginative play characters.

If she has a tablet I also strongly recommend the edurino kit. They're so fun, and based on education so it's not screen time without a purpose.

TheCorrsDidDreamsBetter · 23/10/2025 21:53

Also the toniebox is great because each birthday and Christmas we just buy one or 2 extra figurines to bump up the gifts

Ah, we buy bikes as needed. We ridge them loads, so would be like not having a coat or shoes that fit properly.

My dd had a microscope and a bug collecting kit at 6, got one of those volcano sets too
