Magnetic building tiles or similar for 10yo

DS(10) recently played with some magnetic building tiles at a place we visited and really liked them, but it seems like these are aimed at much younger children - is that correct?

Is there something else perhaps where you have to build and use your imagination that would be more suitable? Maybe STEM-related? Or are people’s 10yo using these (I never see them recommended for this age)? He is 11 in a few months so ideally it would be something that isn’t a 5-minute wonder.

Honestly who cares about age, it's about enjoyment. If he enjoyed playing with them, get them and let him play! Lego is enjoyed by people of all ages, and is not that different. Just because things are safe/marketed for younger children doesn't mean there's no value for older children, or even adults.

We are thinking to get these for our youngest even though she'll be 10 in the spring - ideally we would have known about them a couple of years ago, but there's still at least two years' worth of fun to be had, if not more.

You can get a 'Pro' version of magnetic tiles now - aimed at older kids. They're by Connetix.
