M&S food to order questions

Not ordered from the Christmas to order with M&S before.

Normally we get a frozen turkey weeks before the big day then stress over it defrosting properly and not giving us all food poisoning 😆. This year I’m thinking about ordering a fresh turkey from M&S and picking it up on 22nd or 23rd.

However I’m a bit worried picking up a turkey that late if they “sub” it. Last year we had an online order on the 23rd from Tesco with everything except the turkey and had many subs. Obviously that wouldn’t be ideal if you didn’t get your turkey.

So do M&S sub when you order this way or is guaranteed with them? Thank you

I’ve ordered from m and s Christmas food for years and they never sub anything. The Christmas orders are dealt with separately.

Hi @ThisKhakiJoker , I agree with the previous comment. I have placed plenty of orders with m&s over the years and have never received a substitution 😊 x

The Christmas orders don’t get subbed in the way that normal supermarket deliveries might. They’re pretty much guaranteed, the only time I’ve had a sub was an upgrade to a larger size (no extra fee) and that was once in many years of doing it and communicated in advance.

if it makes you feel better organise your pick up time for 8am on the 23rd - if they DO sub your turkey which is VERY unlikely then either pick up something else or there is still time to defrost an emergency back up - 8am on 23rd, 48 hours to defrost ready to go in oven from 8am christmas morning.

Agree, I’ve never had a substitution from M&S.

I would trust it, I’ve actually only ever had one Christmas substitution and it was Sainsburys and it was basically like for like.

Don’t get a whole turkey. Get a bird in a bird Ina bird thingy. So much nicer, easier to cook and no smelly carcass hanging about

Brilliant, thank you everyone. Will get ordering then 😃

Choose an early pick up time. Whilst I’ve never had a sub, I have ordered something that they then didn’t have. They said they only got 8 delivered to them but had 15 orders so the first 8 people got them 😡

Another here who has never had a sub item that I have ordered before. Even when I was 20 minutes late for my pick up last year and was their very last customer (I just got my timings wrong) everything I ordered was there.

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 11/10/2025 07:25

Only once have I ordered the turkey and ham from M&S. The queue to collect extended outside the store and was 45 minutes long. I could have pucked up the same turkey and same ham from the shelf faster.

Just get there for 8am on 23rd and you'll get what you need.

I never pre order from M&S and I easily get everything I want on 23rd!

I started with M&S after my trusted local butcher tried to sub me a chicken for a turkey! M&S for the last 10 years, I always go very early - first slot, in my case parking is dreadful round there but also ensures you get everything as fresh delivered daily.

DeafLeppard · 11/10/2025 08:29

Never had a sub with my M&S Christmas food order, as others said it’s separate from the main shop floor produce.

Unlike PP here I have actually been in a situation where I didnt get what I ordered from M&S. Having been used to collecting orders from a main store (where everything seems very organised although can involve a long wait so be prepared for that), about 6 years ago I collected from a Simply Food as we were staying with my parents, and it was pretty chaotic. When I arrived for my slot they no longer had any of the type of turkey I had ordered so I was given a different kind. It was meant to be cheaper but it was also larger, so we ended up paying about the same for a less nice one. On the plus side we did still have a turkey for Christmas, so it's not like the supermarket disaster stories I've heard over the years. To be fair to M&S, I think they were overwhelmed as several stores in the region had closed down that year so maybe it was a one-off.
Nowadays we order from a farm shop - less convenient but it's now part of our Christmas traditions to drive out there for breakfast on Christmas Eve and pick up our order
