8/9 year old DD gift ideas

Looking for some shared inspiration for 8/9 year old DDs.

Feel like mine is in a transition year from toys to things and the lack of inspiration is not helped by her having an early December birthday so needing twice the ideas!

So far she's made a few ideas lists but all quite different depending on her current mood so no consistent "id like xyz" so far I'm thinking about:

Stitch things (electric toothbrush, nightlight)
Earrings and jewelery box
Comfy hoodie
Experience tickets - Gladiators and theatre
Hair clips/bands
Lego
Candy floss machine (mentioned a few times)
Craft bits/sets - marbling looks good maybe?
Science set - growing crystals
Worst Witch books/other chapter books

Ideas welcome!!

We've seen Frozen and Matilda so maybe Wicked tickets?

Mine is a year older but mostly wants tickets for experiences rather than physical gifts. So far she wants rock climbing and go karting tickets.

Your list looks great apart from Worst Witch books which I would say are a bit young for an 8/9 year old. I’m also not convinced a candy floss machine would ever get used.

Bucketwee · 07/10/2025 06:14

My 8/9 year old is just reading her worst witch books now but we’ve had them for a couple of years - so I’d say go for it!

our DD that has it all ( 2 homes) is getting a CD Player and Pandora charms, the CD player also gives her aunts and uncles ideas for presents.

experience tickets always go down well, Wicked will be good!

My 9 year old is also very into the worst witch atm so I think the books are fine for that age.

My dd has asked for everything lego and harry potter with a few bits of pokemon And hello kitty thrown in.

Christmassylove · 07/10/2025 07:58

How about a zookeeper for the day experience…my DD loved it. We chose Cotswold Wildlife Park as knew she would adore feeding the giraffes

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 07/10/2025 08:35

My 8 year old loves The Worst Witch too.

Mine has asked for a kid’s sewing machine.
Tickets to see A Play Gone Wrong.

When DD was 9ish I got her a craft trolley from Hobbycraft. I filled it up with nice paper, stickers, her own scissors, different types of glue/sellotape, washi tape, etc. She's 11 now and still uses it all the time.

Some great ideas, including a few I had to Google 😂

They've done the worst witch at school this term so I think it's about right age wise for her. I'm going to go with Wicked tickets and lots of craft bits, maybe the marbling kit then some top-ups of general crafting stuff like pens and sparkly card and glue etc.

Stitch Lego I've got too, forgot I'd bought that - she also likes the character figures @Cherryblossom6754 She did Dobby last Christmas so I think that will be popular.

Also going to get a hair accessories storage box, those spinning ones that are popular everywhere - I saw some in TK Maxx in the week but she was with me so I'll have to go back.

Much easier when they were little I could skip things into the trolley and they had zero idea!

Sounds like you have a good list. I have realised I need to not buy things to make it look more and to stop buying tat. Unfortunately I feel as they get older there is less as the things they want can become more expensive and they aren't into toys. If you are going to buy tickets then these will cost a bit.
This year these are the things my daughter will get, maybe I will add more, but I would rather save money for hopefully a holiday next year.

Squishmallows
Bracelet making set
Loom bands
Board game
Duck vending machine
Positive potato
Stationery
Bath bomb
Colouring book and nice pens
Box of sweets/chocolates
