Something for DS13 to play with/ do

So DS is the youngest of 4. The others still appreciate Lego/ board games/ craft but he doesn’t. He doesn’t really read either (though I’m going to get him some manga of a series he likes).
I have clothes and a new (to him) phone that he’ll like plus American/ Japanese sweets, but I’m conscious it’ll be the first year with nothing to “do”/ play with on the day.
He has a bike/ football stuff/ basketball net. We tried a manga drawing set last year but it’s not been used
Any suggestions?

Hopeful bump! I know it’s a bit early but I’ve one income, 4 dc and 2 paydays to go!
Any thoughts on ukick or boxbollen? Or any experience with those buttons you use to teach your dog to “talk”?

What does he generally like doing?

Is there a “group” present you can buy (board game or something) to give them all something to do on the day, without needing to get something specifically for him that he won’t use?

CountryQueen · 03/10/2025 22:26

Warhammer?

CountryQueen · 03/10/2025 22:27

Or what about a record player? Retro I know, but if he’s into music maybe

fourelementary · 03/10/2025 22:28

What does he like @Kittkats ?

Would he try a harmonica for example? Or learn to juggle? A bop-it would be fun… or good old fashioned rubix cube?

Kittkats · 03/10/2025 22:33

Warhammer, no he doesn’t have the patience (older DS does this). Music knowledge is via TikTok only. Board game as a family gift is a good idea, but need something to entertain him while I do dinner. @fourelementary these are possible- he’s definitely for something a bit outside the box. But he’s Adhd characteristics so need less focus than a rubix cube.
he likes drawing (but only copying), football (but not on a team ), his punch bag, mma course at school, Xbox, anime, the dog and cats, being a bit of a daredevil.

A light board so he can trace designs and some really nice pencils?

FusionChefGeoff · 03/10/2025 22:47

Does he have an iPad? DS loves using the Pro Create drawing app with his stylus - not an official iPad one just an Amazon generic one

A random hit present for DS(15) last year was a mini pool table. I think it was about £10 from Lidl. They played with it all afternoon. I’ve bought the matching mini table football and air hockey set for this year!

tragichero · 03/10/2025 23:17

If you know he likes manga, I would just get him more of that to read. Plus there is lots of merchandise available for all the popular series. Rather than potentially wasting money on stuff he won't like.

Reading is "doing", after all.

That gravity maze thing would be a bit young for him I think. My 6 year old loves it!

Oh. I got it for me a couple of years ago and thought it was great!

Maybe I’m secretly 6 😂

musicalfrog · 03/10/2025 23:39

Manga sticker book?

musicalfrog · 03/10/2025 23:40

Sticker by numbers I mean.

musicalfrog · 03/10/2025 23:40

Or an animal themed one.

padronpepper · 03/10/2025 23:42

A 5000 piece jigsaw?

ResusciAnnie · 03/10/2025 23:49

Boxbollen is fun op! But might be a bit of a novelty and gather dust after Dec 26th?

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 04/10/2025 00:54

How about an Otamatone or an Ocarina?

Leeds2 · 04/10/2025 18:12

The latest Panini football sticker book, with loads of packs of stickers to put in.
Guinness Book of Records.
Joke book.
Waffle/smoothie/ice cream maker.
Buy a kit of make your own crackers, and get him to make them for the table.
Gingerbread house making kit. Last year, Lakeland also had a gingerbread truck.

ToadRage · 04/10/2025 21:17

You mentioned his punching bag, if he likes to box could you treat him to a one-to-one lesson or a course of classes at your local boxing gym and a nice quality pair of gloves.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 05/10/2025 09:10

How about a dart board? My DS loves his.

Rosietru · 05/10/2025 14:51

We got my ds a grown up magic trick to learn, he spent all afternoon perfecting it and then wowed everyone over dinner.
