Due a baby in November when should I put up Xmas tree?

I am due 12th November however getting a planned section about a week before this (anytime from 5th onwards). Due to this being a section I’ll be resting quite a bit after I’ve also got a busy toddler. I told DH I want to put the Xmas tree to November 1st so we don’t need to worry about doing this once baby is here especially if recovering from surgery. Is this too early?

1st December or first week of dec would be fine it my books (I’ve had 3 c sections). I probably wouldn’t be doing much high reaching but happy to direct husbands decorating!!

I'd go the other way TBH, leave it till say the second week in Dec when you should be on the way to recovery, your DH can put it up surely?

He can but we have a toddler and he will be back to work by then so he will also have his hands full. However it’s definitely an option to leave a bit later!

Yes it's too early. Newborns sleep lots during the day remember so you will have plenty time i reckon once baby is here. Not sure if it's your first section but I recovered quicker after no 2. Top tip i got was to always have somewhere in every main room to pop baby down while you tend to your toddler - means less carrying baby about. We had multiple bouncers and sheepskin type rugs

I'd put it up mid December. Having a newborn, plus c-section and a toddler poking a Christmas tree like its a new toy is asking for trouble. I'd wait till your able to get up quick off the sofa with newborn in arms and stop dc1 touching the tree.
Worst case scenario it doesn't go up, but Christmas will still happen.

Definitely later. Have a mulled wine in the evening after toddler is in bed. DH puts the tree up while you feed the baby in the room with Christmas music on.

We went to get our tree the day I got out of hospital with DD1. It was such a cosy and magical evening putting it up with the Moses basket in the corner.

Tree up in early November?? Never heard of such a thing. Are you serious?

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 22/09/2025 21:15

Do it mid December.

If you put it up at the start of November you have 8 weeks of trying to explain to a toddler that it isn't Christmas yet.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/09/2025 21:15

Go for the week before Christmas

a toddler with a Christmas tree up for 2 months before the big day will be hard work!

Notagain75 · 22/09/2025 21:16

Yes much too early. Why can't you wait until mid December?

HuskyNew · 22/09/2025 21:18

Far too early. You’re overthinking.
goung to a nice garden centre and then putting it up is a good toddler activity when you’re stuck feeding etc. or let DH have the baby and you enjoy some normality with the toddler.

TokenGinger · 22/09/2025 21:21

I’d go later into December. A Christmas tree and a toddler is a disaster. I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of them pulling at it whilst recovering.

unlikelychump · 22/09/2025 21:25

You could cook your Xmas lunch too, so you just need to microwave a plate come December?

AxolotlEars · 22/09/2025 21:46

I've had five sections including one at the end of November... definitely wouldn't bother until the middle of December!

You should be totally fine to put your Christmas decorations up by the beginning of December. I've had 3 sections in the past 5 years and I could have put decorations up after a week or 2. I understand everybody is different and it depends on any complications etc. Just don't go up any ladders or do heavy lifting! Leave that to your husband!

December! I had a November baby(30th) and didn’t have the tree up beforehand. It was actually really lovely putting up with baby there even though he had no idea of course! It was a c section birth too.

I’ve never had a baby who would be put down for the first 3 months.
All three of mine would only sleep if being held.

What you’re describing sounds amazing.
