Where do you store dc surprise gifts?

I would have thrown them under the stairs for a few weeks when the dc were younger but now they are at an age where they seek out anything new. I'm at a loss as to where we can store their Christmas presents. Hoping to find some inspiration from others!

Under my bed this year. It’s a bloody nightmare to lift it up, so I wait till I have a few and then stash them. It’s too heavy for the kids to lift by themselves so should be ok!

The loft? Suitcases on top of wardrobes?

PecanThePony · 18/09/2025 07:06

Suitcases

CherieBabySpliffUp · 18/09/2025 07:07

Another vote for suitcases.

fluffiphlox · 18/09/2025 07:08

We had next door’s new bikes in our garage one year!

Thissickbeat · 18/09/2025 07:14

Car.

WonderingWanda · 18/09/2025 07:23

The loft.

Nice try DC! I'm not telling!

TalkToTheDog · 18/09/2025 08:01

When our children were younger, it was a mix of the loft, garage or friends houses.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 18/09/2025 08:20

I used to keep things in my office until very close to Christmas, and bring them home to leave in the car til she was asleep, then wrap and add to piles under the tree or just leave in the boot - well bagged, under the emergency rug and among the winter clutter.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 18/09/2025 08:57

Definitely wrap them as soon as.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 18/09/2025 09:13

Agree with others. I put all my kids stuff in our holiday suitcases while they were out and then put them in the loft. 😁

Lennonjingles · 18/09/2025 09:19

I used to put them on top of wardrobe, until one day there was a massive crash. DS 5 had climbed on top of chest of drawers, the tv fell on the floor and broke. He didn’t get to them, but after this they went in loft.

LorrieTosh · 18/09/2025 09:20

Suitcases under the bed, boxes labelled as boring things like “insurance” and “instruction manuals” at the back of my wardrobe, underneath clothes in bedroom drawers, or I ask a friend to hide them in their house.

I wonder if there’s a way to harness the energy of kids close to Christmas to help find missing people and solve cold cases 😁

Beatmeonthebottomwiththewomansweekly · 18/09/2025 09:23

My mum used to put them in sealed carrier bags in my wardrobe! Talk about hiding in plain sight. It never occurred to me that they might be gifts for me because they were in my room!

MermaidMummy06 · 18/09/2025 09:42

Mine sit on the high shelf in my walk in wardrobe. DC proudly told me last year they knew that's where I keep them. I said before they had a sneaky sticky beak, did they really wanted to ruin their surprise? They decided to not look as they LOVE the excitement!

Truth is I've nowhere else to keep them. Can't leave at DM's because she cleans out impulsively & and would throw some out. She's thrown out gifts I bought on her behalf (she asked) for DC, just forgets & throws it out!!

A cupboard on our half landing that I at 5'8 need to stand on a chair to reach.

LinedOverLatte · 18/09/2025 15:01

I always disguised them and hid them in the garage or under stairs cupboard.

Mine always put their stockings on their bed, so I bought two of each stocking. One was filled beforehand and just needed swapping for the empty one on Christmas Eve which meant I only had to sneak in their room once. Was a great tip from my mum.

Another of her great tips from when I was young, and which I continued with mine, was to put the clocks forward an hour or two during the day on Christmas Eve!! We stayed up later on Christmas Eve (or so we thought!) and at night we’d think it was 9 or 10pm and happily head off to bed, but it was only really 7 or 8pm! Not sure it’d work these days with so much tech that has the time on, and children don’t seem as easily fooled 😆

Suitcases are one of my go to’s- 6 kids so hard to hide all the Xmas things.

frozendaisy · 18/09/2025 15:10

Other house
loft
back of shed disguised as a boring box in dusty water/damp proof bin bags
car
H’s office
more other houses
back of wardrobe
in bags suitcases in our room

pushthebuttonnn · 18/09/2025 18:06

Thanks all, some good recommendations here. I actually recently stored their birthday presents in a large suitcase but I probably wouldn't fit all the Christmas ones in. Our loft is pretty gross, everything smells musty as we live in an old house.
