Anyone else think Christmas evening is such an anti-climax?

Sat at my mum's, drinking vodka and coke, watching Corrie, bit of an anti-climax.

Anyone else winding down now??

OP posts:
Stompythedinosaur · 25/12/2024 20:07

Not me, I love it! The family we were hosting has left and now I can drink, eat cheese and do exactly as I please! Going to watch something on TV with so and maybe play cards with the dc in a bit.

bradypuss · 25/12/2024 20:07

Always!
And I always forget.
Fatigue

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 25/12/2024 20:07

winding down and excited for gavin and Stacey. I don’t think it’s an anti climax, I’m usually exhausted so vegging on the sofa with left over food is ideal

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/12/2024 20:08

We have a savage cold and are in bed watching the South Park movie.

DS worked last night and has also gone to bed.

We did presents and had a cheese board. That’ll do.

Pigeonqueen · 25/12/2024 20:09

Oh no that’s my favourite time of day! I’ve fed everyone, looked after everyone all day - and I’ve done it happily and pleased I have- but now it’s my time. Happily eating brownies and watching daft Tv.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 25/12/2024 20:10

Nope. I love the coziness of it all and I know the tree will be going down soon ish so I take in as much of the beauty as I can. I nearly fell asleep on the sofa and DH has gone to bed, DD is upstairs doing teen DD things and I'm watching virgin river. Calm, peaceful bliss.

BananaSpanner · 25/12/2024 20:10

Not an anti climax because I never expect it to be anything more than a relaxing wind down from an intense day with hopefully some good tv and maybe some nice snacks/drinks.

OP what do you expect from Christmas evening that it’s an anti climax?

Wolfiefan · 25/12/2024 20:10

Can’t wait for Gavin and Stacey. House is sort of straight. Chilling with a glass of fizz. Love it.

Bookaholic73 · 25/12/2024 20:11

Yes I do! I’m bored shitless and thinking of going to bed I’m so tired.

Lovemusic82 · 25/12/2024 20:12

Best part of the day, relaxing, watching crap tv whilst eating chocolate (even though I’m stuffed). Waiting to watch Gavin and Stacey.

doodleschnoodle · 25/12/2024 20:13

Also waiting excitedly for Gavin and Stacey and eating some chocs! I quite like this bit of the day, kids are in or on way to bed, things are calming down, I've just had a bath and am in PJs under my heated blanket.

IceStationZebra · 25/12/2024 20:15

It’s the best bit! We watched Wallace and Gromit, then kids in bed - living room tidied when I get back downstairs. Plate of nibbles, cup of tea, glass of wine, telly. Absolute bliss.

Calypsocuckoo · 25/12/2024 20:15

I can see why it might be but not for us here, we have been hosting family with teens and small children all day. We have had a lovely day but I am exhausted! Have just tidied up, cleared presents and clutter to another room, made some turkey sandwiches and some cocktails, lit some candles and now time to relax and enjoy some quiet family in front of the tv. This is the bit I like. Hope you can relax and enjoy your evening 😌

frozendaisy · 25/12/2024 20:15

Drinking champagne
Just finished Christmas roast with fun cracker charades
Digesting
Puddings still have an hour half steaming to go
So once MIL has done a round of washing up we will let teens open the rest of their presents and watch Dr Who, Gavin & Stacey (maybe) or something else.

This is Christmas to us. Together, chilled, everything we need is here.

Have another day tomorrow full of games, jigsaws, no cooking food.

Following day long local walks.

It's just the start of our festive week, no rush.

AliasGrape · 25/12/2024 20:15

I normally quite like it, either make a supreme effort and go visit the rowdier side of my lot, then we keep the party going. Or (and probably my preferred option) - wave off the in laws and settle down with a Bailey’s, some TV and a few snacks feeling relieved the cooking is over and kitchen clean again.

Currently doing the second one, but honestly just feel tired and flat. I’ve not massively enjoyed today if I’m honest. I’m not sure why - the run up was lovely and not as stressful as previous ones, nothing has gone wrong, DD loved her presents and everyone enjoyed the meal. DH and other guests did all the clearing up. Spent some really nice time with DD. I know it’s one of those days I’ll look back and think it was lovely, but in the moment I just couldn’t really get into it somehow.
I’m so tired, having a perimenopausal horror show of a period and I’m missing my mum - which probably all explains it.

HoppityBun · 25/12/2024 20:16

There’s been a build up of at least 25 days so yes, it’s often an anticlimax and down with a bump. Just enjoy having a rest. The problem is in thinking that it’s all over and that the festive period ends on Christmas Day

Thegreenandpurpleone · 25/12/2024 20:19

It’s been a super busy two days with family so I’ve been looking forward to settling down with a leftover-ham and cheese toastie before getting into bed to watch Gavin and Stacey. I’m just on the toastie (and glass of fizz) stage now. Everything is done and sorted, wider family is happy after seeing everyone, dog is desperate to go up to bed for a big sleep, DH is planning tomorrow’s activities and curry dinner - perfect contentment here.

Starlight40 · 25/12/2024 20:21

No I love it. I always look forward to sitting down watching Call the midwife, eating and drinking what I like.

OooPourUsACupLove · 25/12/2024 20:24

I think it's the unavoidable result of Christmas being backwards these days.

Christmas day is supposed to be the party at the start of 12 days, not the final event. I hate that it's become basically "ok you all got your presents and we had the turkey so that's Christmas done, decorations down asap". I push as hard as can to make the Christmas season last til Twelth Night - a 12 day time for family and friends in the cold dark midwinter.

Mashroom · 25/12/2024 20:25

I’m relaxing now with Call the Midwife and lots of candles on.. will have a glass of mulled wine I think .. ds is colouring in and dh watching a fishing programme

Snugglemonkey · 25/12/2024 20:25

I have worked for days prepping, cleaning, wrapping. Santa came, presents were enjoyed, children had a ball. Fed everyone, dinner was great, played games, set up tech. Had a bottle of champagne and a bottle of Sancerre between 3. Watched Mog's Christmas and the Snowman. I wasgoing to wat h Gavin and Stacy, but I am ready for my bed! Don't even want our cheese (like usual!). But it was a lovely day 🙂🎅🎄

UpUpUpU · 25/12/2024 20:26

It’s a relief! Had a busy day with lots of people and now I’m all alone and my son is asleep. Time to start my new book with a cuppa in bed

Disgustin · 25/12/2024 20:28

No I love it! DH in bed and so are my girls. I'm on the sofa watching feeling so blessed and happy.

PumpkinPie2016 · 25/12/2024 20:29

I don't personally find it an anti climax, but understand some people might.

We were at home this morning (me, DH and DS 11) so had presents, played with ds and had a nice chilled morning. We were at SiLs this afternoon, which, as her boys are now adults, was lovely but not too chaotic. Lovely Christmas Dinner (am now stuffed!).

Back home now, house is straight, DS having a bit longer on his new game before bed for him (he was up at 6am so it's been a long and exciting day) - we probably won't be far behind him! I'll have a brew while I read a bit.

maybeinanotherlifetime · 25/12/2024 20:29

ive Just had an hour’s nap on the sofa which was glorious.

Still tired though and wanted to watch a movie and eat treats but may just have to go to bed.
