Anyone else think Christmas evening is such an anti-climax?

Sat at my mum's, drinking vodka and coke, watching Corrie, bit of an anti-climax.

Anyone else winding down now??

No, I feel relieved that Christmas Day went well and feel the pressure is off now! Have dispatched kids to bed, lit my candles, turned the lights down and am watching TV with nibbles. It's blissful. I don't think of Christmas as a day but as a week of celebration and then relaxing and I am really looking forward to the latter now.

Oh, I hate Christmas Day – it’s always a sense of sadness, guilt, disappointment, versus the magical anticipation of Christmas Eve, which I love. And I love Boxing Day – the bracing walk, the sense of a beginning (for me that’s the start of the new year, I want to get going on the 26th, not have fag end of the year trailing on and on).

The whole day is so busy and frantic that there’s no time to be disappointed between stockings and presents and cooking and cleaning and refereeing arguments; I think it’s natural that the anti-climax hits once evening does and everything’s done and packed away. Nothing can ever live up to the anticipation of Christmas Eve! But then you couldn’t have that magical day without having Christmas, so we do it every year. Do feel completely bummed out now and medicating my feelings with quality street.

House tidy-ish, kitchen immaculate. Watching tv with DH and kids finally asleep. Loving life! Feels like I have a jump start on tomorrow tbh. I love the festive period and January for sorting stuff out so I’m full of purpose (eyes clutter).

I used to feel the same as you though op.

Its the best bit. Bubbly, cheese and tv with candles, fire and the tree. Bliss

I love it. All the hard work is done, I can stop worrying about presents, and I'm just relaxing over a glass of mulled wine.

No I love it. After a whole day in the kitchen, very satisfying today, went like clockwork, roasties were perfect, turkey was succulent and I didn’t forget anything, DS 20 awarded me a 10/10, when asked what he wants for Christmas, every year it is Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
I have had a lovely soak in the bath and now watching “call the midwife “ followed by “Gavin and Stacey”.
Chritmas is low stress we don’t do loads of gifts. We don’t have to do lots of visiting. The family got together at the weekend and MIL is away for a few days.
Low pressure Christmas is great. And we have enough food left so I don’t need to cook for a couple of days.

I always feel a bit odd this time of yr but I'm enjoying a Baileys and some leftovers with the cat curled next to me.

I think it's the unavoidable result of Christmas being backwards these days.

Christmas day is supposed to be the party at the start of 12 days, not the final event. I hate that it's become basically "ok you all got your presents and we had the turkey so that's Christmas done, decorations down asap". I push as hard as can to make the Christmas season last til Twelth Night - a 12 day time for family and friends in the cold dark midwinter.

You're so right with this! I'm always shocked when people are so happy to get rid of the decorations so quickly after. These days between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day are my favourite. It's a haze of comfort, joy, food, wine and love!

We don't eat until about 5pm which means you don't get that slump
