Anyone else think Christmas evening is such an anti-climax?

Sat at my mum's, drinking vodka and coke, watching Corrie, bit of an anti-climax.

Anyone else winding down now??

Nope not anymore. I'm currently sat watching a non-festive TV show with a sugarless cola lol 😆 (Driving to the cinema tomorrow so just had the 1 drink which does me) Me and OH will be watching another episode of The Burning Girls tonight on Netflix. Love 😁🫶

We have a savage cold and are in bed watching the South Park movie.

DS worked last night and has also gone to bed.

We did presents and had a cheese board. That’ll do.

Terence and Philip..shut your face uncle fucker 😂

GreyAreas · 25/12/2024 20:33

No it's lovely. The oldies have had a nice day and have now gone home. It's just us and it's bliss. Time for PJs I think.

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/12/2024 20:38

Oh no, I love it! This time last year I was sparko on the sofa but I’m currently extremely relaxed, it all went as hoped, the kids went to bed early and nodded off in no time, the place is tidy and I don’t plan to cook again for a couple of days. Just watched death in paradise, won’t be up late.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 25/12/2024 20:38

God no! Finally sat down with a glass of wine by the open fire. Old people have been taken home so no more driving, DS staying up a bit later so haven't started the bedtime battle yet. Cheese has been consumed so this is a nice pause.

Roryno · 25/12/2024 20:40

No it’s the calm after the storm. Lovely and chilled . It’s the best week of December from now. I hate all the commercialism and stress in the run up.

Nope. I love the coziness of it all and I know the tree will be going down soon ish so I take in as much of the beauty as I can. I nearly fell asleep on the sofa and DH has gone to bed, DD is upstairs doing teen DD things and I'm watching virgin river. Calm, peaceful bliss.

That sums it up nicely. I love how cosy it is. Just the tree lights/other Christmas lights on. All the opened gifts under the the tree. We have all had a lovely Christmas dinner. After a busy day it's just so nice to sit and watch Christmassy tv shows. Like a lot of other posters we are waiting for Gavin & Stacey. Eating chocolates, crisps, nuts, enjoying a few drinks. I love it and I will be sad when it's over for another year.

CandyCane457 · 25/12/2024 20:43

There’s been 8 of us at my grannies all day and it’s been lovely but I am SO READY to just head home now and get my pjs on and watch some tv. I feel like the fun here starts winding down around 7 but then we drag it out for a couple more hours and always feel the 7-9 slot is a bit of a lull. Excited to get home soon though to chill with my chocs!

Jewell25 · 25/12/2024 20:48

I’m enjoying it. Relaxing on the sofa with my DP, a cheeseboard, chocolates & a good film.

ConfusedChristmas · 25/12/2024 20:49

I used to when I was younger, but I love it now! Excuse to just relax and eat, everything all taken care of!

ConfusedChristmas · 25/12/2024 20:50

I always enjoy my second dinner on boxing day so much better too, just much more chilled!

Chipsahoy · 25/12/2024 20:50

Dc3 is sleeping. Dc2 is playing his new computer game and dc1 is stuffing his face with vienetta while we watch Noelle. Lovely time of day. Can’t wait for a chill Boxing Day too.

I think it's the unavoidable result of Christmas being backwards these days.

Christmas day is supposed to be the party at the start of 12 days, not the final event. I hate that it's become basically "ok you all got your presents and we had the turkey so that's Christmas done, decorations down asap". I push as hard as can to make the Christmas season last til Twelth Night - a 12 day time for family and friends in the cold dark midwinter.

I’m with this. Christmas Eve is the start for us and the eating drinking and visits with friends and family go on from there. We’re on day 2 of a good 5 days of feasting here. Usually longer but for various reasons we’re keeping next week clearer than usual this year.

I usually love Christmas Day evening, picking at leftovers, TV, games, gin. I’ve got very little children so looks a bit different at the moment but it’ll change all the time from here.

LadyKenya · 25/12/2024 20:59

No, Wallace, and Gromit was smashing, so it's all good as far as I am concerned.

WolfFoxHare · 25/12/2024 21:00

No, I love it. DC in bed, tv on, sitting on the sofa with DH, reading a new book and wearing new clothes and earrings… peaceful and cosy. What’s not to like?

mondaytosunday · 25/12/2024 21:00

Today is fine - we all took a little nap and are now in front of the fire watching Trading Places. I'm ignoring the mess in the kitchen.
Tomorrow my son to go home (working on the 27th, my DD is home from uni). The roast I had originally planned will have to wait for the leftovers to be finished. I think then I'll feel like 'it's over for another year', and wonder where the time went.
So you are right - such a build up to what amounts to a few hours (I know Christmas is about so much more). I get greater enjoyment in the few weeks leading up to it than the few weeks after.

Litthefirealready · 25/12/2024 21:01

It’s wonderful, had a lovely day, and now we can relax with a few drinks and nibbles, watch a bit of rubbish tv which has been off all day and giggle (hopefully) at Gavin and Stacey.
all presents gratefully received, lunch was a late and joint effort and pretty good. We’re all chilled and happy.

Thursdaygirl · 25/12/2024 21:02

Anyone else think Christmas evening is such an anti-climax?

yes. I love the build up to Christmas, but once I’ve finished lunch, I’ve had enough

jano69 · 25/12/2024 21:02

Just had a glass of wine and some crisps. Thoroughly enjoyed Wallace and Grommit and now it's Gavin and Stacey! This is the best bit now for the next few days...

Floralnomad · 25/12/2024 21:05

No , we got back from my sisters about 30 minutes ago , now sat watching Poirots Christmas , which is a Christmas Day tradition here and it’s lovely . I actually prefer Boxing Day as it’s a repeat of today without all the hassle of presents .

PermanentTemporary · 25/12/2024 21:05

Not to me, I love it. Working tomorrow unfortunately so today is all the more precious.

Also I'm sitting next to a Hotel Chocolat wreath box.

HeyPrestoVinegar · 25/12/2024 21:06

After months of having christmas rammed down our throats at every turn surely the climax is the gifts and food?
This is your after-climax. (🤢)

WimbyAce · 25/12/2024 21:16

I love it and I love Boxing Day too as all the stress is over. We headed home about 7 which was perfect tbh. I am tired and just wanted to shower, get in pjs and have a cup of tea.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 25/12/2024 21:21

I'm currently contemplating going to bed, have found the tv this evening really shit(never watched Gavin and Stacey or Call the Midwife or whatever ITV have on). Absolutely nothing I want to watch after 8pm and Eastenders is on at 10.30pm.

I'm taking the tree down tomorrow as its taking up space and I want to do a proper clean this week. It only went up last week but I got a bit carried away and bought 6ft tree for my little flat 😬🤦‍♀️.

Sadcafe · 25/12/2024 21:23

Definitely and the more Christmas’s that pass the greater it feels, despite havin* everyone round for much of the day
