Is it common for newish couples to split a week before Christmas?

Not me but I've noticed more people splitting up just before Christmas. All 6 months ish of dating/ some serious some not quite as serious.
Is this to avoid the whole presents and family stuff..

Christmas brings the decision of where each person wants to be. If someone wants to go home to their parents, siblings & school friends rather than be with their boyfriend or girlfriend, then that brings the value of the relationship in to sharp focus.

Or the thought of having to put up with someone else's vile relatives is just not worth the hassle and splitting up is the lesser of two evils.

There is also the issue of gifts, how much to spend don't want to be tight but don't want to be wild if your not sure.

So they don't have to buy presents.
