Late Christmas Tree buying

If you’ve bought a tree late before, when did you leave it and did you get it cheaper?

Not quite what you’re asking, but we got ours a week ago (which I didn’t think was particularly late) and the choice was pretty limited. Either titchy ones or massive. So that’s worth bearing in mind if you’re risking it. Also some places have now sold all their stock.

We tend to get ours 1-2 weeks before Christmas and get from somewhere that grows them, so it lasts until January and have never had a problem. This year we got our tree from the Homebase closing down sale about 2 weeks ago for quite a bit of money off. So longer than usual and it is dropping a bit as I think it’d been standing for a while. But sometimes you can get really nice trees on Christmas Eve, but like the previous poster says, they are often extremes of size. So go into it with a laid back vibe and low expectations and see if you can get a bargain.

we had to get a massive one as thats all they had left and no it wasnt cheaper, I think they knocked about a fiver off the label price but because it was so big it was about 30 quid more than we usually pay

We got a free one last Wednesday as the garden centre had obviously decided they weren’t going to sell any more and just gave them away! 7ft.

YouveGotAFastCar · 22/12/2024 20:04

We used to - my husband used to get it on the 23rd, as my son’s birthday is the 22nd. There used to be a decent supply still, but they’d be reduced.

We stopped a few years ago, lots of places don’t order that much stock anymore and everywhere was sold out a week or so ago here. We got ours last Saturday and it was a choice of two left, and both were not great. I wouldn’t risk it unless you’d be alright with not having a tree.

I got mine for free last Christmas in early January. I was just laying on the street. I couldn't believe my luck.

AlpineMuesli · 22/12/2024 20:37

If you left it to the last possible moment to buy: what date did you still succeed in getting a fresh tree?

And was it cheap?

We bought ours on the 12th, I think, which was late compared to everyone we know! It was not cheaper. Today I saw a FB post by a local seller offering all theirs for free.

AlpineMuesli · 22/12/2024 20:41

To clarify, we are flying back into the country. But I don’t want to pay full price for something only there for one day really.

Well then you’ll just have to have a look round and see if anyone is offering any deals. Most places near us have sold out now, but I’m sure there will be some available somewhere.

I was in B&Q on Friday and they were promoting 65% off all real trees. Didn't see how many they had left.

Thanks, trying them this afternoon.
