Things keep popping into my mind "ooo gotta do X" and I need to write a proper list, but this is what I've remember so far...

Wrap DD's presents.
Get cheese.
Steam mop hard floors (have been using the Flash speed mop for a couple of weeks feels like they need a proper go).
Find the FC stocking paper (red tissue).
Clean guest bathroom (including annoying mildew corner).

What have you got left?

Get some final bits of food shopping
finish my fabric crackers which I'm meant to be doing now
glue my felt wreath place settings together as the wire has arrived
wrap DH abd DDs gifts which I will do on my break at work on Monday and Christmas Eve night shifts
decorate cake
make raspberry meringue roulade for boxing day
put out the candy buffet tonight before I go to bed, Dd abd DH have been in London abd I always put it out for when they get home

I've got to get a couple of gift vouchers which I was putting off doing to maximise their validity after Christmas for the recipients. Everything else is wrapped.

Christmas Dinner is as prepped as possible with things like stuffing, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings made and in the freezer. Turkey is ordered and being collected on the 24th. I made mince pies with my homemade mincemeat this morning.

The last big task is icing the cake. There's some other cooking to do but nothing much beyond what I'd normally be doing for meals. We'll do the gingerbread house in the 24th, but I've got all the stuff to do that already (got the kit in IKEA weeks ago).

The house is clean apart from the pile of stuff that I've been meaning to take to the charity shop since the start of the month. I've got guests arriving today who are staying until after Christmas so I've had to be organised.

NorthernChinchilla · 21/12/2024 19:28

Pretty minimal- DH needs to wrap his half of the presents.
Food bought, all the decorations have been up for ages, just got nice things planned- walks, meeting up with friends etc.
@Muchtoomuchtodo I like to see another chocolate bread and butter pudding afficionado Smile though ours is a NYE staple. Have to start doing it at about midday so I can 'feed' it throughout the afternoon!

twistyizzy · 21/12/2024 19:29

We have re-assembled the bedroom and gave up on the front room at 7pm, ordered a curry and are now working our way through a bottle of Moet!
I need to add trip to the tip to my list for tomorrow 🙄

mathanxiety · 21/12/2024 19:52

@VegTrug
It will get a very thorough cleaning, including cleaning the oven and washing the floor again. I often wish I had a power washer to blast at it.

GameOfJones · 21/12/2024 19:53

We've not got loads left to do as finished the wrapping yesterday and have now bought most of the food. But still on my to do list is:

Buy the fresh vegetables and some bread, milk and fruit to last us for a while on Monday.

Give the floors a vacuum and mop.

Change all the bedding, including the spare room for guests.

Drop off some presents to family members we won't be seeing on the 25th.

sprigatito · 21/12/2024 19:56

Loads of wrapping, including all of DH's presents and some of the kids'
Making mini scotch eggs, amaretti biscuits and stollen
General clean-up of the house
Making pomanders, wreaths and table centrepieces

lemoncrisp · 21/12/2024 22:10

Just got to pop into town to collect one last present.
Maybe another last minute wipe of lounge room surfaces and bathrooms before family arrive tomorrow.
Tree and decorations done a week ago.
Presents all wrapped.
Fridge full of food.
Sideboard groaning with Christmas treats (except Turkish delight - anyone else struggling to find it this year??? )
Turkey and trimmings delivery coming Monday.
Dh has hoovered floors.
Never been so ahead of it all so early so now I'm wondering what's going to go wrong!
Oh and I missed last posting date for Aus so will be face timing instead.

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 22/12/2024 00:18

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 22/12/2024 00:25

Christmas Eve I'm going to peel the veg, make the Jamie Oliver get ahead gravy and make the sausage meat and bacon stuffing.

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 22/12/2024 00:26

You and me both!
My last car (a new Ford Puma) had a drain hole in the boot (in a square shaped indentation in the boot floor which increased the storage space when the drain hole was closed) and the entire boot was waterproof so you can actually hose it down! 💦 It was epic.

Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner??? 🤨 Never heard of or seen that done before. I mean I love Yorkshire’s but Christmas dinner doesn’t traditionally include them?

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 22/12/2024 02:20

Clean guest bedrooms and make up beds
Clean bathrooms
Floss and put up bannister garland
Put away and sort out online food shopping - arriving Monday am

Set table in dining room
Tidy and clean kitchen
Tidy and clean utility room
Clean cloakroom
Scoot round downstairs doing a finally tidy up and flick with a duster

Christmas Eve
Make mince pie pastry
Make cranberry sauce
Make sausage meat stuffing
Prep vegetables for Christmas Day
Prepare and cook gammon joint
Make little sponge buns for children

I thought I was ahead until I wrote this list!!

And finally - keep going to yoga as something for me

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 22/12/2024 02:22

@VegTrug

We always have Yorkshire puddings on Christmas Day too. There would be a mutiny if they didn't appear. I can't ever remember not having YPs at Christmas dinner.

Yes! Since I started making Christmas Dinner myself I’ve always had Yorkshire pudding with it. We have Yorkshire pudding whenever we have a roast regardless of the meat. My DC are fussy eaters and it’s something they both enjoy eating which contributes to my willingness to having them with a roast.

IggyAce · 22/12/2024 06:04

Dust & hoover living room
Clean bathroom
Wrap 2 final presents (framed picture) we took yesterday of mine and db kids for GD & GGD.
Buy veg and party food along with bread.
Collect our Christmas Eve cupcakes.

imnotthatkindofmum · 22/12/2024 06:10

Finish deep cleaning kitchen. I don't normally do excess cleaning just get everything finished but I've not had the time I usually would this year so making the most of the time off!

Finish washing (and drying) so we can eat without looking at wet pants for one day of the winter!

Do all the wrapping

Food shop today (urgh)

Also need to fall out with my daughter about her doing no college work again but that's an ongoing issue and not just a lovely Xmas gift!

SilverDoe · 22/12/2024 06:55

I finished every bit of wrapping I had left (which was more than intended due to a lost present and some impulse/twitch purchases) at 11pm last night.

I'm supposed to be doing the big food shop today but I don't think I can manage, I was rushing round all day yesterday buying the remaining gifts I needed to buy. Plus I haven't done the shopping list!! I just can't clear this chest infection and have been ill the whole run up to Xmas, with no end in sight 😫

I'm anxious about the food prep due to me feeling this way, but will give myself the day off today to try and rest and get the lost done. I'll be dropping some of the ambitious new sides I was planning on and getting what sides I can ready made from M and S. As long as I am cooking the meat, potato's and gravy from scratch, I know it will be a decent meal.

Very much looking forward to Christmas afternoon and a long nap 😴

WinchSparkle80 · 22/12/2024 07:20

Need to clean the whole house but concentrate on downstairs.
Finish wrapping for DH, Friends and Parents.
Tidy up my absolute sh*t tip of an office/dumping ground
Change beds
Find Christmas table cloth and napkins - quick iron.
Sort Xmas eve box (just new pjs and hot choc)
Deliver some presents.
Energy levels about minus 10, so gonna be quite the day!

Food pick up from M&S and food delivery tomorrow- then collapse with movies and fizz.

TeamPolin · 22/12/2024 10:41

Wrap DH's presents.
Buy cheese and nibbles
Hoover and tidy.

Xiaoxiong · 22/12/2024 11:02

I'm sure there is lots to do, but DH will have to give me a list...he is in charge of the magic of Christmas. Probably more food to buy as it's only the 22nd and we will eat everything we already have in before the shops close on Christmas Eve.

I am the one muttering about my childhood 1980s christmases in a communist country where we saved all the wrapping paper and waited in line to buy the one kind of cheese on offer that year. And we were grateful! Grin
