Things keep popping into my mind "ooo gotta do X" and I need to write a proper list, but this is what I've remember so far...

Wrap DD's presents.
Get cheese.
Steam mop hard floors (have been using the Flash speed mop for a couple of weeks feels like they need a proper go).
Find the FC stocking paper (red tissue).
Clean guest bathroom (including annoying mildew corner).

What have you got left?

I’m sat here scrolling on Mumsnet procrastinating whether I have the motivation to start wrapping my grandchildren’s Christmas presents - 27 to do. I’ve not put the Christmas tree or decorations up this year - everything’s in the loft and neither my husband or I can get up there now. Both son-in-laws would have gone up if I’d asked but I kept putting off asking and now it’s definitely too late as I take everything down within a couple of days after Boxing Day. I finally updated my Waitrose delivery for tomorrow that I booked weeks ago, and realised I’d added a turkey breast joint that I can no longer delete from my order (we’re having a nice joint of beef instead that my husband got from the local butcher last Monday) so that’ll have to be handed back to the driver as not required (I did the same last year so really should know better!)
Can you tell that my heart really isn’t in Christmas mode this year?!

Cadburymonster · 21/12/2024 14:27

Clean the floors and skirting boards
Get the car washed
Wrap the rest of DS presents (will probably do on Christmas eve when he's asleep and lay them all out under the tree.)
Bath the dog
Clean our bedroom and the windows in there.
Give bathroom a little once over
Drop presents off for family I won't see on Christmas day (going to DH's family for Christmas day)
Prep a bit food for our Christmas eve picky tea
Buy some more cans of coke because we've hammered the ones I bought in the big shop.

abigaail · 21/12/2024 14:34

Sunday -
Wrap the last few presents (one should be delivered today)
Bring the Xmas chocs and nibbles down from the bedroom and display nicely in the kitchen
Get the extra chair and extendable dining table piece from the loft
Monday -
Buy bread and potatoes (and an extra large fresh chicken incase the frozen turkey crown smells off when defrosted- so many horror stories online every year!)
Tuesday-
Take turkey and stuffing out to defrost
Make a biscoff cheesecake
Prep the veg
Make pigs in blankets
Dust, hoover, wash the floors and windows.
So not much but I do have 3 nightshifts to work Saturday,Sunday and Monday night!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/12/2024 14:46

Collect food order on 24th, that’s it. All wrapped, all cleaned, and ready to go.

PepperoniPizzas · 21/12/2024 15:53

Pick up the turkey and pigs in blankets from the butcher on Monday. Grab milk and bread. A couple of bits left to wrap. Have been doing a deep clean of the house the last week or so but will give it a once over after work Tuesday. Got a houseful for Christmas Day!

Missingpate · 21/12/2024 16:55

I thought I was fairly ahead but feels like lots to do.

wrap all presents
buy last a couple more presents, just small edible things, and take ds into town to buy a couple of things from him
deliver local cards
bake some mince pies - didn’t do it last year and regretted it
slow cook an Xmas eve ham for the first time, excited about it 😋

so not actually too bad now I look at it. Have already cleaned house top to bottom as dsd just visited for an early Xmas meal and was a great chance to get ahead of the cleaning. Decorations were all done early December

Falafelolive · 21/12/2024 17:00

Wrap presents
Make more mince pies and creamed leeks
Cards to neighbours
Collect turkey
Mop kitchen floor
Make up spare bed
Work Monday and Tuesday

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/12/2024 17:08

Wait for sil to drop in whenever she feels like it with ds gift
Get meat from butchers

LimeLime · 21/12/2024 17:15

I'm hoping tomorrow's online grocery delivery will have everything I ordered or else I'll be doing an emergency run to the supermarket. Apart from that I'm waiting for a thingummy from Amazon to repair the bathroom basin drain and then I'm done. And then daughter arrives and the Christmas season is begun.

HermoinePotter · 21/12/2024 17:20

All done here, Christmas will start tonight for DH & I.

Timeforatincture · 21/12/2024 17:21

Going to DS and DDIL for Christmas so trickiest task will be catching the cats in good time to get them to the cattery so we can catch our train.

GettingStuffed · 21/12/2024 17:27

Wrap presents esp for DD's family as I'm seeing her on Monday.
Then wrap ours
Make mince pies, I did the mincemeat on Friday.
Make rocky road all ingredients now bought
Make stollen if I can find my dough hooks
Top up shopping from Aldi & Lidl Monday

I can't think of anything else but I need an early night

SugarCookieMonster · 21/12/2024 17:34

Vacuum
Pick up M&S food tomorrow
Pick up veg and herbs
Write cards for family we’re visiting
Change bedding to Christmas sets
Watch Arthur Christmas (possibly the most important on the list!)

HansHolbein · 21/12/2024 17:38

I just tidied and cleaned the house so I’m glad that’s out of the way!

Big food shop on Monday.. heading to M&S for 6am.

Few more presents to wrap. Christmas Eve boxes and stockings to fill.. that’s about it really. Usually I am behind so I’m doing well this year..

UtterlyOtterly · 21/12/2024 17:52

Makelikeatreeandleaf

That reminded me of a family I knew years ago. They were once so exhausted with school and with stressful jobs that they basically all went to bed for a few days, then sorted Christmas out in time for New Year. Genius.

OdeToBarney · 21/12/2024 17:59

Clean the house (will do Christmas eve, maybe make a start tomorrow)
Wrap 2 presents which will arrive on Monday (not critical as not seeing recipients until after Christmas)
Take delivery of food order early on Monday before heading off to visit FC

I think that's it...?

Iliketulips · 21/12/2024 18:10

Find one of my DH's presents

Buy fresh veggies, fruit, milk and one or thing we use over the weekend.

Take DM to the cemetery

Iron Xmas table cloths and sort table decorations out

Thoroughly cleaned bathroom, downstairs toilet and hoovered yesterday, so a quick flick around. Change bed and generally keep up to date with washing.

I do not intend to spend ages on the above tasks. Working tomorrow, so cemetery and table clothes in morning after exercise class. Shopping early Tuesday and housework finished before a mid morning coffee and Xmas cake.

I normally clean the windows and oven before Xmas, but haven't got the incentive this year.

mathanxiety · 21/12/2024 18:12

Get a good deal of junk out of the bedroom that will be occupied by two visiting DDs.
Figure out where to put it.
This has to be done this weekend as one DD arrives on Monday.

Drop off a gift to someone - any time before Christmas.

Clean the bathroom - basically wash the floor. This will be done on Sunday.

Clean the kitchen - again a floor wash, and will be done on Sunday. The kitchen will see a lot of action between now and Christmas night so will be hosed down on Boxing Day too.

Polish some surfaces, damp mop floors. Needs to be done this weekend or Monday during the day or evening.

Shop for Christmas dinner - roast beef or pork tbd, veg, potatoes. Monday, or Sunday afternoon.
Make Christmas desserts (in US so pumpkin pie, pecan pie).
Bake cookies.
Cookies Sunday (DD's job), pies early on Tuesday (DD/me).

So of course here I am on MN...

To be fair, I did a massive turkey dinner with all the trimmings and desserts a month ago for Thanksgiving, and I always do a thorough cleaning before that.

All presents are bought and either shipped or hidden where I can easily find them on Christmas Eve. All chocolate is also bought and hidden well.

Stressybetty · 21/12/2024 18:13

Finish washing, write and deliver neighbours cards, clean house, look at tree and put up if it's ok (we keep putting this off). Off till 27th and want to shampoo carpets upstairs, deep clean MIL en-suite (dementia & lives with us), sort my winter clothes out, list a few eBay things and trim dogs. Waterproof new boots etc etc

Printedword · 21/12/2024 18:24

Rejig the pantry so stuff fits better.
Collect meat order at butcher.
Decorate the mantelpiece a bit more.
Wrap and round up a few small gifts
Decide which Christmas sparkly to wear and find out if it's in the suitcase hidden between the spare bed and the office desk in there (if it's not there I know where the other sparklies are)

Done today -
Adult son beer requirements (he doesn't like red wine)
Bottle of fizz for New Year
Panettone
Nice non alcoholic drinks
Meet up with local friend and have lunch, exchange gifts

Iamblossom · 21/12/2024 18:32

Marzipan and ice cake
Food shop tomorrow with DH

I think that's it.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 21/12/2024 18:39

Very little to do as we're having Christmas Dinner with friends I do need to find something else for MIL (93, needs nothing and hates Christmas more with each passing year).

I'm having a haircut on Christmas Eve so will pop into Waitrose for stuff for DH and me to graze on for Boxing Day. Hope there's something left!

VegTrug · 21/12/2024 18:41

Finish making the stuffing & apple sauce.
Wrap the last of the presents.
Harvest potatoes, sprouts, parsnips & carrots from the garden (not looking forward to this as we have gale force winds right up to late night on Christmas Eve).
General tidying

VegTrug · 21/12/2024 18:56

@mathanxiety I can’t help but query the hosing down of the kitchen?! 🧐

pestowithwalnuts · 21/12/2024 18:56

Still got wrapping to do.
Wrap stocking gifts for dh's stocking.
Get out the Spode Christmas Tree dinner service
Bring dining room back to normal after using it as 'wrapping central '
Sunday-- get out the big tub for soaking the ham
Another tub for brining the turkey.
Clean out the fridge ready to receive all the goodies
Monday- Take out turkey to defrost in the fridge
Christmas Eve--- clean everywhere
Change sheets.
Do veg prep and defrost p-i-b and stuffings
Make Sherry Trifle
And as always..following a family tradition started by my mother.....all the different chocs.nuts Turkish delight etc come out at 3-00.
Don't ask me why..it's always been that way
The family laugh at me but it brings fond memories of my dear old mum who made Christmas magical for us on a very low income
